Heard County High School defensive end Zaylin Wood has decided to spend his collegiate career in the City of Brotherly Love.

The rising senior standout took to Twitter on the Fourth of July to announce his verbal commitment to Temple University.

“I am proud to announce that I am committing to Temple University to continue my academic and athletic career,” Wood announced on Wednesday. “Thank you coach (Geoff) Collins and the rest of the coaching staff for giving me this opportunity! #GoOwls.”

Rated as a three-star prospect by 247 Sports and Rivals.com, Wood has received heavy interest from several Division I programs over the past six months, receiving offers from Georgia Southern, Troy, Tulane and others. The Owls officially swooped in with their offer on May 15.

Wood was one of six players to commit to the American Athletic Conference school on Independence Day, a haul that included fellow Georgia prospect Jacoby Sharpe out of Lanier.
