The West Georgia Technical College softball team broke into the win column this week, earning a 6-2 victory over East Georgia State College on Friday and a 6-5, eight-inning decision over South Georgia State College on Saturday.

The Golden Knights split both twin bills, falling in Game 2 to SGSC, 7-2, on Saturday and dropping the opener to EGSC on Friday, 5-0.

On Saturday, Mount Zion High School product Jayde Bradley got the win with five innings of work, yielding two earned runs, while Kayelyn Lewis (1-for-3, 2 RBI), Ashlyn Lewis (1-for-1, 2 RBI) and Chancey Davis (1-for-3, RBI) led the offense. Hannah Hennesy recorded the save. Hennesy also went 2-for-3 with an RBI in the nightcap on Saturday.

In Friday's win, Hennesy worked all seven innings, allowing no earned runs on four hits. Jordan Hamilton (2-for-3, 2 runs), Azariah Bell (1-for-2, 2 RBI) and Bradley (1-for-3, RBI) led the offense.

WGTC Baseball

The WGTC baseball team was swept in a twin bill against Southern Union State Community College on Saturday, suffering 9-0 and 6-2 setbacks.

Jacob Early (1-for-2) and Aaron Gonzalez (1-for-3) led the Knights in the opener, while Justin Jackson (2-for-4, run), John Livaditis (1-for-2, RBI) and Adam Pedraza (1-for-3, RBI) paced the offense in the nightcap.

UWG Baseball & Softball

The University of West Georgia baseball and softball teams had their Gulf South Conference series against Delta State in Cleveland, Mississippi, pushed back a day due to expected inclement weather.

The UWG baseball team will play in a 2 p.m. Sunday twin bill, followed by the series finale at 2 p.m. on Monday. The UWG softball squad is slated for a 4 p.m. twin bill on Sunday with the series finale on Monday at 1 p.m.

UWG Football

The UWG football team has just two practices remaining this week — Tuesday and Wednesday — leading up to the Spring Game, which is set for 7 p.m. on Thursday at University Stadium.

First-year head coach David Dean will host the event in a simulated game atmosphere for the scrimmage. There is no charge to attend the event.

Each team will feature a guest coach, as UWG President Dr. Kyle Marrero will be on one sideline, while Jim Sutherland, vice president for Business and Finance will serve as the other guest coach.
