The Oak Mountain Academy girls' basketball team took its first step toward the region crown on Monday night with a 55-16 victory over Solid Rock.
Lilly Parmer led the Lady Warriors with 10 points, followed by Sarah Kate Pike and Maggie Harden with eight points apiece.
OMA returns to the court on Thursday night at 6:30 against the winner of St. George's/LaGrange Academy at Brandon Hall School.
The OMA basketball teams had several players represented on the all-region squad, as Christian Pollard, Lilly Parmer, Josie Francis, Aubrey Wynn and Maggie Harden earned the honor for the Lady Warriors, while Cofer Horton was the all-region selection for the Warriors.
Central boys 3, Villa Rica 2: The Lions won their season opener on Monday, posting victories from Luke Reid (10-3) at No. 3 singles, while the pairings of No. 1 Garner Duffey/Landon Schulenburg (10-3) and No. 2 Mason Harden/Dalton Lewis (10-0) were also victorious in doubles action.
Central girls 5, Villa Rica 0: The Lady Lions also had a strong opening performance Monday, picking up wins from No. 1 Emily Justice (10-6), No. 2 Elle Jones (10-0) and No. 3 Anna Carnes (10-0) on the singles line, while No. 1 Katie Schmittou/Madison Spruell (7-5) and No. 2 Karlee Eidson/Lauren Buchanan (10-0) also captured victories in doubles.
The Carrollton High School baseball team had Monday's home contest against Douglas County postponed until Thursday. First pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. at Cole Field.
