Just 24 hours after dropping a heartbreaker in region play, the Central High School boys' soccer team regrouped and battled to a draw with Adairsville in a non-region rumble on Tuesday evening at Roy Richards Memorial Stadium.
The Lions (6-5-1, 2-3 Region 5-AAAA) are still in the hunt for a Class AAAA state playoff berth and can punch their ticket with a win at Sandy Creek on Thursday evening.
In Monday's 3-1 setback to the first-place Grangers (9-2-1, 5-0), Central was leading 1-0 with nine minutes remaining and the visitors pulled even and put the go-ahead goal into the back of the net with 55 seconds left in regulation.
Central pulled its keeper and got a good late look, but it couldn't force overtime and LaGrange booted one in from deep in the final seconds into an empty net for the two-score margin.
Central JV boys 1, Adairsville 0: Ricky Vaughn scored the lone goal of the match off an assist from Jay Yoder for the Lions (7-1) on Tuesday.
Trion 9, Bowdon 7: The Red Devils (15-6, 6-4 Region 6-A) fell in another wild game that saw them nearly overcome an 8-0 deficit by scoring seven runs in the bottom of the sixth before bowing out to the Bulldogs on Tuesday night.
Hunter Braswell had two hits and two RBI for Bowdon, while Coleton Pitcock also drove home a pair.
Heard County 13, Jordan 0: The Braves (7-9, 4-0 Region 5-AA) used a grand slam from Tray Owens in the region rout over the Red Jackets. Owens also picked up the win on the bump for the fourth consecutive league win for HC.
Carrollton Junior High 7, Bay Springs 4: The Trojans were led offensively by catcher Cole Carter, while Turner Fricks tossed the complete-game victory on the mound Tuesday.
On Monday, the Trojans (5-2) defeated Central in a 12-4 decision with pitchers Carson Sewell, Joe Cooney and Kade Cosper combining for a solid effort on the hill.
Carrollton girls 3, Woodward Academy 2: On Monday evening, the Lady Trojans recorded wins from No. 1 Sonya Ivashchenko (6-0, 6-3) and No. 3 Audrey Best (2-6, 6-4, 11-9) in singles play, along with No. 2 Madison Webb/Christen Arant (6-0, 7-6) in doubles.
McIntosh boys 4, Carrollton 1: The Trojans earned their win from No. 1 Ross Martin/Aidan Coleman in doubles play on Tuesday.
The Holy Ground Baptist Academy boys' golf team improved to 11-0 in match play this spring with a school-record round of 158 to defeat Hearts Academy (211) on Tuesday.
Combining for the record performance were Jonathan Brezina (36), Caleb Wall (39), Chase Delay (39) and Peyton Phillips (44).
Leading the way for the Lady Stallions were Susie Huckeba (58), JoeLee Palladino, Hannah Cole and Payton Boyd.
