Groom, Grub & Belly Rub Opens in Villa Rica

Chaos lurks behind the door of Villa Rica’s newest downtown store. Of course, Chaos is a seven-month-old English Bull Dog and he’s not really lurking so much as waiting for someone to come in and scratch his belly — a seemingly suitable thing to do since the name of the new store is Groom, Grub & Belly Rub.

Mannequin Contest to Breath Life, Creativity into Villa Rica Holidays

Mirror Lake Collision & Hot Rods Set for Grand Opening in Villa Rica

Rodney Fernander is a guy who turned his love cars and body work into his business. He opened his first body shop when he was just 19 years old on Fairburn Road in Douglasville. Before the end of this year, he hopes to have a grand opening for his new Villa Rica business, Mirror Lake Collision & Hot Rods.

Recycle Solutions Relocating to Bremen

Recycle Solutions has been doing business in Villa Rica for the past four years, three in its current location, but the general manager says they are being forced to leave the city because complying with the city’s code ordinances would be too expensive. As a result, the business is in the processof moving 16 miles up the road to Bremen.

Reese takes Consultant Job Without Pay

The City of Villa Rica’s consulting job offer to former city parks and recreation director Jeff Reese seems to finally be a done deal after Reese agreed Monday to take the offer but doesn’t want to be paid for the work. Perhaps, because on several occasions, Mayor J. Collins questioned the amount ($400 per week) that Reese would be paid.

Faithful Guardian Training Center Expands, Opens in Temple

The Faithful Guardian Training Center moved from downtown Villa Rica and opened its doors at the new Temple location on Friday. Located on Carrollton Road, right next to Yazoo Trading Company. The newly-expanded school trains EMTs, paramedics and certified nursing assistants and will soon be training professional fire fighters.

Temple Business Overcharged $83,761.60

The City of Temple found out recently that it has overcharged a Temple-based business $83,761.60, over a period dating back to May of 2006. While acting as an advisor to the City, Jim Baxley discovered the over-billing error, which overcharged Janus International, located at 135 Janus International Blvd., $69452.19 in sewer fees and $14,309.41 in water fees. Baxley said he discovered the error sometime in June.

Villa Rica to Hold 9/11 Remembrance

On Thursday, September 11, the City of Villa Rica will hold its “9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance” honoring all service men and women as well as those lost and those who rose in service after the 2001 attacks. The remembrance will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m., at The Mill amphitheater.

Former Mayor Gives Notice of $1M Lawsuit Against Temple

An attorney representing former Temple Mayor Rick Ford has sent an Anti Litem notice to the city of Temple, notifying the city of his intent to file a lawsuit of $1 million. Ford's lawsuit claims city officials committed acts of libel, slander, defamation of character and placing Ford in a false light.

Chickens Cause Ruffled Feathers at Villa Rica Council Meeting

In a 4-0 decision, with Council Member Leslie McPherson abstaining, the Villa Rica City Council decided to revoke the conditional use for chickens, granted to John Barras on Sept. 12, 2012. At that time, the council allowed Barras to raise chickens, in his residential subdivision in Charleston Place, but placed a limit of 12 chickens and one rooster on him with the additional condition that he was not allowed to sell them.

Train Helps to Triple Museum’s Revenue

Revenue from visitors to Villa Rica’s Pine Mountain Gold Museum tripled in 2013 from 2012 and are on target to at least double again over last year. One third of the 2013 revenue was from the train alone, which was added in September of 2013.

Temple Is Hiring . . . But No One is Cutting the Grass

During a Temple City Council meeting on June 26, the council approved hiring a new city clerk, two positions in the recreation department, as well as a police investigator and a public works technician. The council also discussed several city maintenance problems, ranging from uncut grass to an unsanitary restroom at city hall.

Villa Rica Book Store Gets New Owner

Loyal book store customers who frequent Villa Rica’s Books by Design, located at 113 S. Candler Street, are in for a surprise. They are used to opening the front door and being greeted by friendly book store owner Tiffany Ward-Powers and her little white dog, Doodle. They are used to coming in, and not just looking for books, but petting Doodle and chatting with Tiffany about everything from their garden to their grandchildren.
