Warrants have been issued for Charlie Cieya Rasha Grant, 31, charging her with one count of insurance fraud, two counts of forgery and three counts of theft of services — all felonies.
VRPD Capt. Keith Shaddix said the investigation began when Grant reported a burglary and damage to property at her Mirror Lake home in August 2009.
“During our initial investigation we found that her house was practically empty of furniture and other items and it had been completely destroyed inside,” Shaddix said. “Bleach had been poured on the carpet and hardwood floors, holes had been knocked in the walls, appliances had been damaged, the kitchen cabinets were completely shattered and laying on the floor. It was just total destruction throughout the house.”
Grant reported that beds, dressers, televisions and furniture had been taken totaling $30,000.
“We’ve investigated that incident with very few leads,” Shaddix said. “It’s still an open case, but we have not identified who did damage to her house or stole the items she said was taken.”
Police say that some of the charges stem from information they were provided with from Grant’s insurance company that alleged she had forged at least two documents and committed insurance fraud by inflating prices.
In addition, three contractors who have reportedly done work at the house to fix the damage from the alleged break-in are still owed a total of $56,500 even though the insurance company has paid Grant in excess of $100,000 on the claim.
Grant is currently in Afghanistan on business, but police have been in contact with her employers and she is being sent home to face the local charges.
Shaddix said that Grant has no history of related charges on her record.
