Buchanan Farmer’s Market

Vendors and shoppers are welcome to the Buchanan Farmer’s Market every Thursday through the fall from 7 a.m. to noon. There is a $5 fee for vendors to cover advertising costs. Fresh and locally grown produce will be available, as well as concessions, at the Buchanan Methodist Church parking lot, on the corner of Georgia Highway 120 and U.S. Highway 27. VR/Temple Kiwanis

The Villa Rica/Temple Kiwanis Club will meet May 11 at noon at Villa Rica High School Conference Room. Speaker will be Villa Rica Mayor, J. Collins. Visitors are welcome.

BRIDGE Festival

Bremen BRIDGE Festival to Help Combat Drug Usage in West Georgia 5K Race registration and sponsorship opportunities are available now. Registration for the 5K Run / Walk at the Third-Annual Bremen BRIDGE Festival is now available www.bremenbridgefest.com. This annual family celebration will take place on Saturday, May 15, and will benefit BRIDGE, a West Georgia program designed to Build Recovery in Drug Gripped Environments. April Book Bunch

Children’s Story Time at the Buchanan-Haralson Public Library at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. For information about topics for each week or other information, call 770-646-3369.

Ballroom Dancing

Grab a partner and join us for Dance Classes including Swing, Cha Cha and Rumba on Mondays. Session II will begin June 7 from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. for four weeks at Sewell Mill. Osteoporosis program

“Dinner with a Doctor,” a program on prevention and treatment of osteoporosis will be held at the Temple Senior Center on Rome Street from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on May 13. The cost is $5, which includes a light, calcium-rich meal, the program, screening and handouts. The program features Sharon Baker, BSN, MN, and Dr. Kelvin Burton. Bremen Senior Center Play

The Bremen Senior Center members will preform the play “Mama’s House” on May 6, 7 and 8, at 7 p.m. at Sewell Mill. Tickets cost $5 and are available at the Bremen Senior Center.

Bremen Big Bark Festival

Downtown Bremen is hosting the First annual Bremen Big Bark Festival on May 29. We will be celebrating all creatures big and small. All money raised will go to the Haralson County Animal Shelter. Vendor space is available, contact Kristen 770-537-2331.

HC Trout Fishing Rodeo

It is once again time for the planning and preparation for the 29th Annual Haralson County Trout Fishing Rodeo that will be held on Saturday, May 8. We are in the process of compiling items for the 1,500 goody bags that we will give away on the day of the event. If you or any Chamber Member has items that are suitable for children up to the age of 15, the Wildlife Club would gladly accept them. Golden Years Club

21st Century Leadership Ekklesia of Jesus Christ will hold registration for their Biblically based senior citizen program, The Golden Years Club, from 8 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. June 14, 313 Mt. Zion Street, Bremen. Programs include informative sessions on breast cancer, prostate cancer, pain management and healthy eating habits. WHES Council Meeting

West Haralson Elementary School Council Meeting will be at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 10, in the WHES Multipurpose Room. All parents and guardians are welcome. We will be holding elections for new parent council members for the upcoming 2010-11 school year. Please attend the May meeting and let your voice be heard.

A Taste of Chocolate

You are invited to a very special Bremen Junior Woman’s Club fund-raising event with exquisite chocolate treats, fun and fellowship from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at the Rock Building in Bremen. Annual Food Drive

The National Association of Letter Carriers Annual Food Drive will be Saturday, May 8. Please leave non-perishable items in your mail box! All proceeds will benefit two local food banks, Haralson Ministries and Kingdom Rock Family Food Bank.

Bremen High School Honors

Bremen High School Honors Night will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 18. Academic awards, perfect attendance, scholarships, and other awards will be presented. All parents and friends are invited to attend. Event location will be announce at a later time.

Haralson County Senior Center

The Haralson County Senior Citizens is taking reservations for an October trip to Branson, Mo. Contact Rhonda at Senior Center in Buchanan 770-646-2029. We would like to have sign ups complete by June 10. The center also hosts Aerobics at 10 a.m. every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The center plays bingo at 10 a.m. every last Tuesday of the month and is sponsored by Southern Traditions.

Tour of Fox Theater

HCHS 10 Year Reunion

The Class of 2000 10 Year Reunion will be held Aug. 21. The cost is $25 per couple. Checks should be mailed to Misty Redden Price 141 Chestnut St., Tallapoosa, GA 30176 before May 31, if possible. Please include “class reunion” on the check memo. Receipts will be mailed. Location is still being determined at this time. Computer Classes

Buchanan-Haralson Library

Buchanan-Haralson Public Library will have Children’s Story Time at 4 p.m. each Tues. beginning on May 4. For information about story topic, call 770-646-3369. The Library is also bubbling with excitement for Summer Reading, which begins at 4 p.m. Tuesday, June 1. Sign up today. Delicious 2009 Georgia Pecans and Peanuts are still available at the Library. Prices range from $4.50 to $7 per pound. Proceeds benefit the library.

Bremen Car Cruise

The Bremen Liars Club and the City of Bremen will hold the May Cruise-in this Saturday, May 8, downtown on Talapoosa Street at 5 p.m. All hot/street rods, customs, restored or original antique cars, trucks, and motorcycles are welcome. Admission is free with awards, door prizes, and a money tree. Come out and enjoy the cars, oldies music and hamburger stand. For more info contact Raymond at 770-537 1595.

Food Distribution

Tallatoona Haralson will distribute food from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 26, on a first come first serve basis, while quantities last at the End Time Warriors For Christ on Carrollton St. in Buchanan (go around back). To pick up food for someone else you must have a permission note from that person with their name, street address, household income and household size. You must be resident of Haralson Co. Bake Sale

Just in time for Mother’s Day, the Buchanan Woman’s Club will host a bake sale on the square in Buchanan across from Piggly Wiggly. Friday, May 7, 10 a.m. until sold out. Cakes, pies, cookies, brownies, banana bread and much more. Great homemade desserts without the hassle of baking.

Bremen Middle University

Rabies Clinic

Lucky Paws Humane Society will have a rabies clinic, from 1 - 4 p.m., Saturday, May 15, at Buchanan Animal Shelter. The cost for each vaccine will be $10. Dr. Jonathan Hatchett DVM.

BHS Presents The Wizard of Oz

Bremen High School presents The Wizard of Oz Friday, May 14, and Saturday, May 15, at The University of West Georgia’s Townsend Center. Friday show is 7:30. Saturday shows are 2:30 and 7:30. Tickets are $8 for adults and $7 for students through college. Tickets are available online at www.bremencs.com on the Bremen High School page or call 770-537-4914. Tickets will be sold at the box office if seats are still available.

Bremen Board of Education Meeting

The Bremen Board of Education holds its regular board meeting on the second Monday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Warren Sewell Administration Building located at 504 Laurel Street in Bremen, Ga. The next regular board meeting is scheduled for at 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 10. All board meetings are open to the public. At the May 10, meeting, the Board of Education will consider a recommendation to request waivers from the Georgia Department of Education for Title I carry over limitations (ESEA Section 1127(b)) and for the Title I maintenance of effort requirement (ESEA Section 9521; 34 C.F.R.§299.5). BRIDGE Fest “Singing Idol”

Crooners and rockers alike will have the opportunity to take center stage and vie for the opportunity to perform live during the Bremen BRIDGE Festival to be held Saturday, May 15. Vocally inclined residents throughout the West Georgia area are encouraged to compete in the festival’s first Bremen Idol Competition. The selected top talent will receive a $500 cash prize and the opportunity to sing on stage that night with West Georgia-based Ghost Town Band. In addition to the grand prize winner, there will be a second and third place winner. Rules and applications can be found online at www.bremenbridgefest.com. Fair On The Square

Fair on the Square, normally scheduled the third Saturday in May will be re-scheduled due to construction work being done at the Historic Courthouse. We hope to have a summer party and fair to celebrate the completion of the Streetscape Project. All Fair vendors will get a letter and a refund if they have registered. Please join us later in the summer.

Parrish Family Reunion

Bremen Business Watch

The Bremen Business Watch will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 6, at Wrightway BBQ located at 1003 Alabama Ave., Bremen (in old Ingles shopping complex).
