Carrollton, Central get sweeps

The Carrollton High School tennis teams swept visiting Alexander on Tuesday, with each squad improving to 6-0 on the year.

On the boys side, the Trojans’ No. 1 singles, Roger Schoerner, won 6-0, 6-0, while No. 2 Cope Walker (6-0, 6-2) and No. 3 Mark Swindle (6-0, 6-0) also had little trouble in their matches.

In doubles, No. 1 Jackson Grillo and William Brown (6-0, 6-0) swept, as did No. 2 Michael Ingram and Hunter Bland (6-2, 6-2).

The Lady Trojans only lost one game in their singles matches Tuesday, as No. 1 Rebecca Buchanan (6-0, 6-0), No. 2 Caroline Colpini (6-0, 6-0) and No. 3 Katherine Burger (6-1, 6-0) all cruised to wins.

In doubles, No. 1 Sydney Gaston and Bethany DeWitt (6-0, 6-0) swept, as did No. 2 Sara Beth Alford and Kendall Pence (6-0, 6-0).

Central girls 5, Bowdon 0: The Lady Lions (2-0) rolled past the Red Devilettes at home, with No. 1 singles Emily Startup (10-2), No. 2 Amber Spicer (10-2) and No. 3 Sommer Schave (10-6) all collecting victories.

In doubles, No. 1 Denny Meigs and Carly Cagle (10-4) and No. 2 Madison Dillard and Emily Bush (10-1) both cruised to victories.

Central boys 5, Bowdon 0: The Lions (2-0) also swept through the Red Devils, with No. 1 Ken Startup (10-4), No. 2 Chase Cochran (10-1) and No. 3 T.J. Minus (10-5) getting wins in singles play, while No. 1 Jacob Stewart and Jonathan Horsely (10-3) and No. 2 Michael Silver and Bryce Sailors (10-0) also won in doubles action.
