The city council will swear in new council members Larry Yockey and Sam Davis, administer the oath of office to returning ones and elect a new mayor pro tem Monday night.

Then the work begins.

The agenda for the legislative work session includes an agreement for repairs to the culvert and roadway on Cindy Drive, which were damaged by heavy rains and flooding in September,

Work on the project hit a snag in December with Maintenance and Sanitation Director Greg Roberts trying to work out last-minute details with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) on the storm drain pipe size.

Another item for discussion will be the elimination of the information technology assistant director position in the Information Technology Department and the establishment of a new position with the job title of communications coordinator.

Other items of discussion will include:

• consideration of a possible amendment to the city’s contract with Benning Construction Company for construction of the new community center at Hunter Memorial Park.

• authorizing the city attorney to settle pending litigation discussed in executive session, pursuant to terms proposed in mediation.

• holding a public hearing for the purpose of considering waiving the requirement for a City of Douglasville logo on the mayor’s and city manager’s work vehicles in calendar year 2010.

* and authorizing the mayor to sign necessary documents for the purchase of 846 blue and black lid recycling containers from Toter, Inc. at a cost of $30,546. The 846 carts, 64 gallons each, cost $36.36 per cart, with an estimated shipping charge of $768.
