The Tallapoosa Public Library is gearing up for its first special reading of the new year, and it’s expected to be a treat for everyone who attends the event next Tuesday, Jan. 5, at 1 p.m.

Refreshments will be served, but those aren’t the only treats that are in store for guests. They will also hear selections from Villa Rica author Frank A. Roger’s first work of fiction: “Upon A Crazy Horse.” Rogers has a more conservative background in technical writing, but this latest work paints a vivid account of one man’s triumphs and struggles during his adventurous horseback-riding excursions, according to event organizers.

“I think fiction writing is his first love,” said Tallapoosa Public Library Manager Karen Bowling. “We love having the opportunity to showcase the talents of our authors from the West Georgia area.”

She added the book was a “nice selection” chosen by the library’s “Lunch Bunch” book club, which is sponsoring the event.

Guests can also buy their very own copy of the book during the in-house book signing that will be held after the reading. At that time, guests can also get more information about membership for the book club, which Bowling said offers members a chance to “read and discuss in social setting, but also open their minds to a different point of view – an area often overlooked when a person is reading alone.”

The Lunch Bunch Book Club meets at 1 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month. Bowling hinted that “To Kill A Mockingbird” might be the book of the month for February.

Interested participants can get a head start on reading by getting a copy of the book at the Tallapoosa library, where they can check out the books selected each month for the book club.
