The Optimist Club of Douglas County held its 12th annual “Kid’s Blue Light Christmas Special” at K-Mart on Highway 5 on Thursday. This year’s project enabled 91 local needy children the opportunity to go on a shopping spree, accompanied by an officer from the Douglasville Police Department or a local volunteer. The Optimist Club raised the funds for the project which was a tremendous success thanks to the generous response received from the community, according to Rickey Roland, project chairman. The project began in 1998, and since then 868 needy children have been served. The faculty from local elementary schools selectedthe children participating in this project.
