David Mark Fenimore, a suspect in two bank robberies this past week in Villa Rica, is in the Douglas County jail following his arrest Friday night on drug charges.

“They’re holding him on the drug charges,” said Capt. Keith Shaddix of the Villa Rica Police Department. “We have a hold on him with the bank robberies.”

Villa Rica police believe Fenimore robbed the Regions Bank Friday afternoon and the First National Bank of Georgia on Tuesday.

Shaddix said he was informed Saturday afternoon of Fenimore’s arrest. He said Douglas County did recover some money.

“As to how much, I don’t know,” Shaddix said. “We’ll go meet with them Monday.”

A second man police believe might have been involved in Tuesday’s robbery is being held in Fulton County on drug charges. Shaddix said Villa Rica police plan to talk with him early next week.

Fenimore, 37, is believed to be from New Jersey and was described as a drifter, moving from motel to motel.

Based on information from the Atlanta Police Department, Villa Rica police positively identified Fenimore prior to the second robbery. Shaddix was on his way to Atlanta Friday in an attempt to locate Fenimore when he received a call about the robbery at the Regions Bank branch.

“He was seen in the Atlanta area [Thursday] and he may have been casing out another bank,” Shaddix said.

The two robberies were similar. According to police, the suspect approached teller stations at both banks and passed a note demanding an undisclosed amount of money.

“It was the same thing, where he talked in a low voice,” Shaddix said Friday. “People around didn’t know it happened until after.”

No one was harmed during either robbery and it is unclear whether the suspect was armed.

“He didn’t show a weapon but he indicated he did have one,” Shaddix said.

Fenimore does have a criminal record but he has never been arrested for robbery, according to Shaddix.

Shaddix said the arrest of Fenimore was a relief to Villa Rica police, whom he described as exhausted after investigating the two bank robberies, a recent homicide and burglaries.

Way to go Douglas County! I grew up in D.C. during the Earl Lee days. The D.C. sheriffs dept were well trained and very courteous to the citizens. They have always been tops in law enforcement and highly respected. I have lived in Carroll co. for 25 yrs. and we are lucky if they even show up when we call them. Plus if you do encounter one of them they are rude and disrespectful. Good Job Sheriff Miller, I know you trained with the best and are now passing that knowledge on. Thank You.
