For the second week in a row, Chapel Hill (5-3, 4-3) faces another Region 4-AAAAA elimination game tonight.

Following an impressive home victory against Creekside, the Panthers travel to 12-Oaks Stadium in Clayton County to play Lovejoy (3-5, 3-4).

Chapel Hill needs wins over Lovejoy and perhaps at Westlake (7-2, 6-1) to clinch a spot in the post-season.

“A win over Lovejoy is a must — lose this one and we are out,” coach Chris Parker said.

Offensively, the teams match-up pretty evenly.

Formation-wise, they are a bit different. Lovejoy runs more from the shotgun and spreads the field. They’ll throw the ball some and have a speedy receiver, who is also a track standout.

Chapel Hill will mix things up, but would like to run the football with Johnathan Parks and Mario Cannon.

But Lovejoy plays a basic 50-front with a lot of men in the box. The Wildcats’ first objective is to stop the run.

“We’ll have to pass or go man-to-man against them and run it anyway,” Parker said.

The Panthers hope the game turns on special teams, where they are strong.

Alexander visits Banneker, whose starting quarterback, Dempsey Abernathy, is trying to recover from a concussion Oct. 9 against Douglas County.

Regardless of who is at quarterback, Banneker (6-2, 4-1) will be favored. Banneker has clinched a region playoff berth, while Alexander (3-5, 2-3) hopes to finish strong.

The Alexander defense will have its hands full against a big-play Banneker offense, which features plenty of speed and talent.

Alexander will likely play either McIntosh or Fayette County on the road next week.

Also tonight, Lithia Springs (0-8, 0-5) goes to Lakewood Stadium to face Mays (6-2, 3-2) in the second game of a doubleheader. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.

Mays, No. 3 in the sub-region, won big against sub-region leader Villa Rica last week at the Georgia Dome.

“After watching the film, Mays played great and Villa Rica played as poorly as I’ve seen them play all season,” Lithia Springs coach Steve Horton said.

Lithia Springs also learned that it will end the season a week from tonight, hosting Heritage-Catoosa.

Douglas County, also out of the playoff picture, has an open date.
