CHICKAMAUGA — The Bremen High School football team was a model of efficiency on Friday night.
Despite getting just 27 offensive snaps and having less than 15 minutes of time of possession, the Blue Devils rolled to a 41-0 Region 6-A victory over Gordon Lee.
Bremen (5-3, 3-1 Region 6-A) erupted for a 21-0 lead at halftime and never looked back to stay in the thick of the region playoff hunt.
After an initial punt, the Blue Devils scored on their next three possessions of the first quarter on drives of two, one and four plays, respectively.
Senior Nick Cash got things going with a 13-yard touchdown run. Christian Prichard followed with a 14-yard scoring run following a botched Gordon Lee punt attempt, and Cash capped the quarter with a 3-yard plunge.
The Bremen defense allowed the Trojans (1-7, 1-3 Region 6-A) just one play of more than nine yards on the night. That one play came on a strange Gordon Lee possession following Cash’s second touchdown run of the night.
The Trojans took possession at their own 20-yard line with 15 seconds left in the first quarter and proceeded to run off 15 plays and take a whopping 9:45 off the clock.
But a 15-yard penalty following a loss on third down at the Bremen 35 forced Gordon Lee to punt the ball back with 3:00 left in the half. The lengthy drive eventually netted a total of just 28 yards.
Cash needed just one play in the third quarter to rack up his third score of the night, this one from 73 yards out as Josh Golden’s fourth PAT pushed the lead to 28-0.
Then after another Gordon Lee punting miscue, Sam Murphy covered nine yards on two carries, and Wil Rego’s kick made it 35-0 with 6:08 to go in the third quarter.
Playing with a running clock in the fourth quarter, sophomore Dylan Shepherd got loose on a 68-yard run with 2:28 to play for the night’s final points to put a big blue bow on coach Ricky Tolleson’s 100th career victory.
“Bremen’s physical and very strong,” Gordon Lee coach Kevin McElhaney said. “We were playing a lot of young kids (Friday), too, but Bremen did a good job and it showed.”
Bremen rushed 24 times for 175 total yards while Cash paced the ground attack with 91 yards on just four carries.
Gordon Lee got 39 yards on 12 tough runs by Caleb Guthrie, but as a team, the Trojans managed just 47 yards on 43 attempts. Austin Goodlet had nine tackles to lead the defensive effort for Gordon Lee.
