Gingrey Outreach

Congressman Phil Gingrey will be conduction a Congressional Outreach in Haralson County from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 28, at the Government Complex Conference Room, 155 Van Wert St., Buchanan. A representative from Congressman Gingrey’s office will be available to meet with area constituents who wish to discuss any issue or problem involving the federal government.

BPS BINGO

The PTO will be sponsoring BINGO at the school during the fall festival on Thursday, Oct. 29, from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be great door prizes, and all proceeds benefit the school. All are welcome.

Bremen Youth Basketball

The Bremen Parks & Recreation Department will be taking registration for Youth Basketball through Friday, Oct. 30, at 5 p.m. For boys and girls ages 5 - 14. The cost for ages 5-6 inside the City is $20 and outside the City is $35, ages 7 - 14 inside the City $35 outside the City $50. Registration must be made at the Parks & Recreation Office at 417 River Circle in Bremen or by mail with fee included, no registration will be accepted via fax or e-mail. No registration will be taken after Oct. 30 at 5 p.m., any participate seeking to register after the deadline will be placed on a waiting list, which does not guarantee placement on a team. Basketball registration

The Haralson County Recreation Department will take registration for basketball for ages 5-12 through Nov. 6. Fees are $40. No registration taken after cut off dates. No refunds after sign up. For information call 770-646-2029.

Turkey shoot

Steadman Baptist Church turkey shoot will be Nov. 7 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring own shell for wild card shoot. More info call Tim 770-301-3129. Money raised for youth.

HCH class of 1999

Haralson County 4-H Fun Day

Haralson County 4-H is having a Pancake Breakfast on Oct. 24 from 6:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tickets are $5 and are available from a 4-H member or at the Haralson County Cooperative Extension Office. A Chicken Swap will begin at 7 a.m. with an auction at 4 p.m. The 4-H Chicken Project Show is at 10 a.m. The line up for the Tractor Ride and Show will start at 11 a.m. and the ride will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Entry fee for the Tractor Ride is $25 per driver. Applications may be picked up at the Extension Office. All proceeds will go to Haralson County 4-H with the Tractor Ride to benefit the youth participating in Project S.A.F.E. BB Team. Concession stand will be open after the Pancake Breakfast. There will be other activities throughout the day. All activities will be held at the Callaway Livestock Pavilion. Historical Society

Haralson County Historical Society will meet at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 9, in the library located in the Old Courthouse on the Square in downtown Buchanan. They meet on the second Monday of the month except December and all are invited.

Horse fun show

A Horsen’ Around Fun Day Fun Show will be held Nov. 14 at Possum Snout Arena in Tallapoosa. Classes for all ages include Pewee, Youth, Jr. and Open. Trophies and ribbons will be awarded. Registration is at 11 a.m. and events start at noon. For information call 770-574-8104.

Turkey Shoot

The Haralson County Republican Party will have a turkey shoot, (12 gauge and 20 gauge only). from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sat., Oct. 24. (Rain day on Saturday, Oct. 31) at 1213 Mr. View Clubhouse Rd., Buchanan, for the Haralson County Republican Party Scholarship Fund. For more information, call 770-646-2001. Concessions available.

Fall Festival

There will be a Fall Festival at John Tanner State Park from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Sat., Oct. 24. Enjoy hay-rides, hot chocolate, and spooky night hikes. Little guest can trick or treat at designates campsites or watch a family movie under the stars. There will be campsites decorating contest and S’mores around the campfire. Children 12 and younger can participate in a costume contest. First place for both the campsites decorations and costume contest will receive a prize (entrants must register at the office prior). A schedule of specific times will be available at the John Tanner State Park Visitor Center. $5 parking. 770-830-2222.

West Ga Museum of Tallapoosa

The West Georgia Museum of Tallapoosa is currently accepting decorated Christmas trees to be featured in the museum’s annual tree display. The display will be held at the museum from Thanksgiving afternoon until Jan. 31. Walk-N-Talk

Walk-N-Talk is a new kind of book club that will take place at 6 p.m. each Wednesday at the Buchanan-Haralson Public Library. Join us.

Chili Cook-off

Come join us in Downtown Bremen to see who has the best chili around on Saturday, Nov. 14, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Chili Cook-off will feature cooks and their teams vying for cash prizes. Purchase your wristband, which will give you access to the event, all you can eat chili and your vote for the “People’s Choice Award.” Soft drinks, water and other items will be sold throughout the event. Admission ($5 for adults and $2 for children) will be sold at the gate. Vendor registration forms are available on-line at www.bremenrec.org or come by the Parks & Registration office and sign up, the entry fee will be $20. Book Club

The Tallapoosa lunch bunch book club will meet Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. in the Tallapoosa Library reading room to discuss the book The Age of Innocence. 4-H Monster Mash

Haralson County 4-H is having a Monster Mash at Callaway Livestock Pavilion on Oct. 31. It will be from 5 to 10 p.m. All 4-H’ers are welcome to attend, but must have a signed Code of Conduct and Medical Release Form in order to participate. Tallapoosa Rec. Department

The Tallapoosa Recreation Dept. Basketball Registration and Cheerleading Registration will be Oct. 5 through Nov. 6. Basketball boys and girls ages 5 - 14, cost $45 in city $50 out of city. Veterans Freedom Motorcycle Ride

The 5th Annual Veterans Freedom Motorcycle Ride is an 80 mile police-escorted ride through every community and city in Haralson County. Benefits Veterans Memorial Park in Tallapoosa. Registration begins 9 a.m. and ride begins at 10:30 a.m. and part of Tallapoosa’s Veterans parade, sat., Nov. 7. $25 per bike: includes event T-shirt, American flag and lunch. $10 additional rider. Ride originates at Veterans Memorial Park, Ga. Highway 100 at Taliaferro St. Tallapoosa and ends at nearby Helton Howland Veterans Park on US 78. Information: 770-537-4708.

Master Gardener Course

Anyone interested in becoming a Haralson County Master Gardener is invited to register for the training program that will be taught at the Carroll County Agriculture Center from January through April. The training program will be held every Tuesday and Thursday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Applications are available at the Haralson County Extension Office and will be accepted through Nov. 20. Folk music

Bud Jones will perform in the upstairs courtroom of the historic courthouse in Buchanan on Monday, Nov. 2, at 7 p.m. It will be a night of folk songs, food and fun. The event is sponsored by Buchanan’s Friends of the Library. No admission will be charged, but all donations will be go to the library salary fund.

Buchanan Fall Fair

The Buchanan Fall Fair has been rescheduled due to rain. It will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat. Oct. 24. There will be a parade at noon featuring the Haralson County Rebel Band, live entertainment, live music, and a whole bunch of good food! As always, there is no admission!

Pumpkin Caper

The Buchanan Pumpkin Caper is Monday, Oct. 26, from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. We will have a costume contest, children’s games, hot dogs and hamburgers, and of course, lots of pumpkins local school children have decorated. Local businesses will also hand out candy, so make sure everyone has their costume!

Book Release

The family of Mildred Styles Johnson will be hosting a book release gathering announcing Buncombe Folks at the Antioch Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Buncombe Community from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25.

Buchanan-Haralson Public Library

Friends of the Buchanan-Haralson Public Library will be offering up some good eats, Christmas items, and books for sale during the Fair on the Square Saturday, Oct. 24, come support your library!

One-Act Play Public Performance

The Bremen High School Theatre Department will present its competition one-act play, Mark Twain in the Garden of Eden for the public on Monday, Oct. 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the BHS gymnasium. Concessions will be sold, and admission is $3; however, donations are appreciated to help defray the cost of the set and costumes for the production. Individuals donating to the theatre department will be eligible for three prize drawings on the night of the show. Region competition will be Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the Cedartown Civic Auditorium.

Corinth Fall Festival

Everyone is invited to our Fall Festival from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 31, at Corinth Baptist Church, located at intersection Hwy 120 / Rockmart Rd. We will have jumpers, games, prizes, giveaways, food, face painting, and a whole lot more. Bring the whole family our for a wonderful day. Make sure you bring a friend with you. Rabies Clinic

Lucky Paws Rabies Clinic will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24, in Tallapoosa’s Helton-Highland Park on Highway 78, led by Dr. Matt McCord. $10 for each vaccine (cash please). Drive-thru with your pet!
