The Douglas County Board of Commissioners (BOC) today is expected to approve about $1.5 million in emergency road repairs caused by September flooding.
The action is on the agenda for the 10 a.m. regular BOC meeting in Citizens Hall at the county courthouse.
Authority to contract for the road work, without the necessity of the bidding process, was given to the county Department of Transportation by an Oct. 1 BOC resolution.
Other items on the BOC agenda include:
• declaration of October as Domestic Violence Awareness Month in Douglas County;
• declaration of week of Oct. 18 as Kappa Alpha Psi Week in Douglas County;
• declaration of Nov. 1 as Retired Educators Day in Douglas County;
• resolution for Development Authority of Douglas County to join other counties in a joint development authority;
• resolution establishing recovery zones so county development authority can qualify for federal stimulus funds;
• Federal Transit Administration grant application for $299,449 to pay for 12 vans purchased by Riseshare last spring;
• acceptance of recommendations of county’s pension advisory board for an amended and restated employee pension plan;
• authorization for Douglas County to apply for available Qualified Energy Conservation Board allocations;
• a settlement agreement with W. T. Thornton Family Limited Partnership for property and easements for E911/EOC building construction;
• approval of flexible spending accounts for county employees, beginning Jan. 1;
• agreement with R. J. Wood and Company for contract administration and construction inspection services for the E911/EOC building;
• agreement between Douglas County and Bank of North Georgia to complete remaining sidewalks in the Legands and Bear Creek and Kings Bridge subdivisions;
• acceptance of a $28,949.86 grant from Georgia Superior Court Clerk’s Cooperative Authority to upgrade indexing software for real estate documents;
• acceptance of $15,674 U.S. Bureau of Justice Assistance grant to purchase safety equipment for the jail staff;
• and approval of 2010 BOC schedule of meetings, work session, along with planning and zoning and variance hearings.
