The Mt. Zion High School football team will attempt to snap a two-game losing streak tonight when it heads to Dacula for a 7:30 contest against Hebron Christian Academy.

After winning their season opener over Central, Talbotton, the Eagles (1-2) have suffered back-to-back losses to Temple and Mt. Paran Christian, respectively, which have not only hurt in the win-loss column, but also on the depth chart.

Already suffering from a thin roster to begin with, injuries have created even more number issues for the Eagles.

Senior linebacker Drew Norton has been the biggest loss to deal with through three games, as he had to leave the Temple game in Week 2 for the entire second half due to a shoulder injury.

The Lions (1-1) are fresh off their first varsity win in school history after knocking off Lakeview Academy last week, 31-7.

Just a third-year program overall and their second year playing a varsity schedule, the Lions dropped a 38-14 decision to the Eagles in 2008.

But Hebron Christian has made solid strides over the past year, sparked by the hire of first-year coach Brian Smith, who came over from Greenbrier to lead the Lions.

Smith played collegiately at Clemson University and coached at North Greenville University in South Carolina. He has also previously coached at several high schools in South Carolina.

Hebron Christian opened the season with a 26-20 road loss at Temple.

After a bye week, the Lions defeated Lakeview in convincing fashion in Lawrenceville, busting open a 12-7 halftime contest by scoring on three of their four second-half possessions for the 24-point victory.

Freshman quarterback Matthew Pursell led the Lions offensively, rushing for 136 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries, while also passing for 31 yards and a score.

Tonight will mark the end of the non-region schedule for the Eagles, who open Region 6-A action next Friday at home against Trion.
