In approximately one month, the Haralson County Board of Education Office in Buchanan will be cleared of central office personnel and relocated to the system’s annex building on Robertson Avenue in Tallapoosa. System officials said the move will allow them to maximize space and allow the system’s transportation department to expand, which will help meet the growing needs of the department.
Haralson County Schools Public Information Officer Kersha Cartwright said moving into the annex office also comes with a name change to the building, which served as a school long ago. The building will be officially renamed to the Haralson County District Office after the relocation process is complete. Cartwright cited overall conveniences for regrouping amongst staff at both locations.
“This space was already available for us to develop offices for administrative staff. We’re going to do a little remodeling to two classrooms to provide a board room that will accommodate more parents and community members. (Relocating) will allow the transportation department to expand at our current location in Buchanan.”
Cartwright said the system’s social worker as well as food services and special needs personnel have already left their base at the annex office to settle in Buchanan.
Addressing the battered economy, Cartwright said the system is trying to save as much money as possible. Therefore, they will sell the trailers that have housed the finance and transportation departments at the current site. She said the additional space will accommodate a bus barn and maintenance facility as part of the new transportation and technology center.
Cartwright added the school board meetings will resume in Tallapoosa once the board room is completed in the upcoming months.
