Hiram and Dallas will both have city council elections Nov. 3.
Dallas incumbents Griffin White in Ward 3 and Nancy Rakestraw Arnold, at-large, will be re-elected without challengers as no one else qualified in those races last week. Ward 1 Councilman Kelly Carter faces a challenge from Terry David Johnson of 428 Mirage Drive, so a city election will be necessary.
None of the three Hiram incumbents whose seats are open this year — Charles Schafer in Post 3, Alvin Sims in Post 4 and Vince Smith in Post 5 — chose to seek re-election, but other candidates have stepped into the void.
Derrick Battle of 33 King Road is the sole candidate qualifying last week for Post 4, and he will take Sims’ seat in January. Battle lists his occupation as meter reader.
Earline Graham, an international sales manager who lives at 332 Center St., and Linda E. Meg Hunt-Williams, a missions worker who lives at 126 Seaboard Ave., are the qualified candidates for the Post 5 seat.
Three newcomers are vying to represent Post 3: Stephen S. Bray, a project manager who lives at 28 Hunt St.; Teresa R. (Laird) Philyaw, a retired Realtor living at 41 Sunny Lane; and Billy Sims Jr., an electrician/foreman who lives at 502 C.W. Sims Road.
Voting will be at Dallas City Hall and Hiram Community Center. Four-year council terms begin Jan. 1.
