The congregation of New Georgia Baptist Church is turning to an old-fashioned “camp meeting” to bring their message of truth in uncertain times.
The week-long, tent-style meetings will reiterate to those who attend that the church preaches “the Cross of Christ and a Living Savior,” and that there is only one answer for people in times of economic, political and spiritual upheaval.
“It has been a long time since there has been a tent meeting in this area, but we seem to be living in some very uncertain times,” Pastor Jim Burdette said. “In a number of ways society is changing and there has been an upheaval in the things we always knew. It’s led to a lack of security for people. The church is the one element that can’t change. We are making a statement to the community, as well as ourselves, that we know the truth.”
The congregation of New Georgia Baptist Church has been praying for the success of the Camp Meeting event for the past 100 days and a prayer team will hold a 24-hour prayer vigil leading up to the event’s first meeting on Sunday, Sept. 13, with Evangelist Dr. Larry Draper bringing the message at the morning and evening worship services.
Likewise, speakers from around the area will bring similar messages throughout the week, including: Pastor Philip Johnson on Monday, Sept. 14; Pastor Emeritus R.C. Watson on Tuesday, Sept. 15; Evangelist Dr. Daryel O’Barr on Wednesday, Sept. 16; Pastor Tony Samples on Thursday, Sept. 17; and the Pastor Stephen Williams will bring the closing message on Friday, Sept. 18. All speakers will begin at 7 p.m..
“There is truth and we will let it be known for one week,” Burdette said. “This is not an event, not a statement. There is a real truth and that truth is Christ.”
Even though New Georgia Baptist Church has a large new facility, Burdette said Camp Meeting will take place in one large tent, rain or shine, cold or hot, because the point of the week is the message that will be presented and not the facility in which it will be presented.
“We hope and pray, first and foremost, that people will leave knowing this is the truth,” Burdette said. “Not a truth, but the truth. No matter how much some people like to persuade it away, it is there.
“I want them to understand there is one way and one way only, and you can’t receive or reject it because there is no middle ground.”
New Georgia Baptist Church is located just north of Villa Rica on Highway 61 in Paulding County. Child care and children’s activities will be available.
