The Traveling Wall

Volunteers are still needed to read names at The Vietnam Traveling Memorial Wall beginning at the opening ceremony on Sept. 19. The wall will be located at the Haralson County Veterans Memorial in Tallapoosa on Hwy. 100 north next to the old Tallapoosa High School. Mixon reunion

Singing

The Buchanan Senior Center will host a singing featuring the Shadrix Trio on Aug. 30. A covered dish lunch will be at 11 a.m. and singing at noon.

Book Club

The Tallapoosa lunch bunch book club will meet Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. in the Tallapoosa Library reading room to discuss the book, Three Cups of Tea. The group meets on the first Tuesday of each month in the library. New members are welcome. For information, call Karen at 770-574-3124.

Benefit Ride

Haralson County Sheriff Eddie Mixon invites the entire community to come out and support the 6th Annual Lamar Hunton Memorial Ride to benefit the Georgia Sheriff’s Association Youth Home. Family reunion

The Ware, Boyd and Hardnett family reunion will be held Sept. 5 and 6 starting with a fish fry at Barbara McGarity’s house from 4 to 10 p.m. On Sept. 6 from noon to 5 p.m. there will be a dinner at Haralson County Recreation Center, located off old Highway 27. Bremen Car Cruise

The Bremen Car Cruise will be held every second Saturday through September, 5 p.m.-until. featuring, antique cars, trucks and motorcycles. Located in downtown Bremen on Tallapoosa Street. Door prizes, music, food and fun. For more information call 770-537-9157.

Crafting classes

Waco Fest

The 25th annual fall festival will be held Saturday, Sept. 12. Breakfast will be at 6 a.m.; Parade at 11 a.m.; Arts and Crafts all day; Horseshoes at 1 p.m.; Talent Show at 4 p.m. for all ages; Street Dance at 8 p.m.; Food and Entertainment all day; Free Games, plus free giant slide, moon walk, and obstacle course. Talent Contest

A talent contest will be held in conjunction with Waco’s Annual Fall Festival Sept. 12 at 4 p.m. in the City Auditorium. No age limit. May compete as individual or group. Contestants will be narrowed down to 10 finalists who will compete a second time for first place prizes. $20 enrollment fee. Deadline is Aug. 28. First place wins a trophy and $300.

Philpot reunion

The 183rd Annual Philpot Reunion will be held Sunday, Sept. 20, at the Senior Citizens Center in Bremen. The program will begin at 11 a.m. with Dr. Craig Philpot sharing pictures and experiences of

his visit this summer to the Philpot homeland, County Cork, Ireland. Bring your favorite covered dishes as drinks and eating utensils will be provided.

4-H Fun Day

Haralson County will host a 4-H Fun Day on Oct. 24 the Callaway Livestock Pavilion in Buchanan. There will be a pancake breakfast, chicken swap, cake walk, 4-H chicken project show, chicken auction and the 1st Annual Tractor Ride and Show to benefit Haralson County 4-H youth participating in Project S.A.F.E. BB Team. It will be lots of fun as tractor drivers form a tractorcade and tour a 20 mile route through the county. Entry fee is $25 per driver. Bremen First United Methodist will host a Family Benefit Car Wash on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Branham Hall Parking Lot. Come let us clean your car and help local families who are in need of assistance due to medical illness. All donations accepted.

The Dogwood Garden Club’s Harvest Tour of Homes will be from 1 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 17, tickets are $10. Food Distribution

Tallatoona Haralson HRDC will distribute food from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 23, on a first come first serve basis, while quantities last at the End Time Warriors for Christ on Carrollton Street in Buchanan (go around back). Please bring identification. To pick up for someone else you must bring a permission note from that person with their name, street address, income and household size. Fall Fair on the Square

The Haralson County Historical Society/Downtown Buchanan Revitalization presents the annual “Fall Fair on the Square” Saturday, Sept. 19, in downtown Buchanan. There will be arts and crafts, food, children’s games and a parade at noon featuring the Haralson County High School Marching Band. The Friends of the Library (FOTL) will hold their annual BBQ lunch fundraiser. Tickets for the BBQ can be purchased at the Buchanan-Haralson Public Library or from any FOTL member. Hunter Education Class

A Hunter Education Class is being offered from 6 - 10 p.m. on Sept. 8 and 10. You must attend both nights to be certified. The class will be held at the Haralson County Government Complex Center located at 155 Van Wert St., Buchanan (behind the Tax Commissioner’s Office). Please bring your social security number.
