The Bremen High School wrestling team won the Area 1 Duals tournament it hosted on Saturday, and Bowdon ended up second, meaning both will move on to the State Duals in Macon next week.
“We just wrestled pretty hard and pretty well. So hopefully we can do it again next week,” Blue Devil coach Tony Armas said.
While he was pleased with the effort, Armas knows his team will have to keep getting better to reach its ultimate goal of a state championship.
“We’ve got some things we’ve got to solve. We’re nowhere near where we need to be,” Armas said. “Hopefully things will continue to improve and get better next week.”
Bowdon’s wrestlers will join Bremen at the State Duals, as the Red Devils knocked off Gordon Lee, 39-7, in the challenge round to finish second in the area duals.
Mt. Zion challenged fourth-place Darlington, but the Eagles couldn’t get by the Tigers, finishing fifth and coming up just short of making it to State Duals.
Gordon Lee finished third, with Darlington coming in fourth. Those two teams will join Bremen and Bowdon at State Duals.
Region 6-AAA Duals
The Carrollton High School wrestling team finished third at Southeast Whitfield High School on Saturday, falling one place short of qualifying for the State Duals.
The Trojans defeated Ringgold, 38-33, in the opening match, then fell to LaFayette, 72-11, but bounced back to knock off LFO, 53-27, setting up the fourth and final match of the day, a 52-24 setback to Heritage, Catoosa.
