CHARLES SUMMERVILLE

Charles R. Summerville, 69, of Old Corinth Road, Buchanan, died Jan. 5, 2009.

Mr. Summerville was born on May 26, 1939, in Polk County, the son of the late J.C. Summerville and Clara Brown Summerville. He was a member of Welcome Hill Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Gary Summerville.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. at Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen with Rev. Brad Walker and Rev. Buddy Gentry officiating. Music will be by Buddy Gentry.

METTA RAE KENERLY

Metta Rae South Kenerly, 90, of Longview Street, Carrollton, died Monday, Jan. 5, 2009.

Mrs. Kenerly, a native of Carroll County, was born Jan. 3, 1919, the daughter of the late Hudson South and Sarah Nixon South. She was a retired receptionist, homemaker and active member of the Sharing Believers Sunday School Class and Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Julia Kenerly of Maryville, Tenn.; sister, Pauline Herndon of Woodbury; four grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Nathan L. Kenerly; daughter, Janice Brock; brother, T. J. South; sisters, Lottie M. South, Aliece Jackson; six half-sisters and five half-brothers.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 2 p.m. at Almon Funeral Home in Carrollton with Dr. J. Howard Cobble and Dr. Jimmy Gentry officiating. Music will be by Patty Pritchard. Pallbearers will be Frank Kenerly, Walter Dean Duke, Ed Lands, Danny South, Jerry Smith and Shane Herringdine.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 12 p.m. until the funeral hour. Burial will be in Indian Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

FRANK BOATRIGHT

Mr. James “Frank” Boatright, 92, of Main Street, Whitesburg, Ga., passed away Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009.

He was born May 13, 1916, in Carroll County, the son of the late Ida Pearl Bachelor Boatright and James Grover Boatright. Mr. Boatright was a retired employee of Nova Products, was an avid gardener and enjoyed wood working. He served his country with distinction in the U.S. Army during World War II as a part of the tank corps serving in the European Theatre.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Alice Duke Boatright; brother, W.C. Boatright (who was a casualty in WWII), and sisters, Velma Crawford and Marie Sailors.

Survivors include daughters and sons-in-law, Elaine and John W. Sauls of Villa Rica, Ga., and Tanya and Ed Bradberry of Franklin, Ga.; sister and brother-in-law, Lucille and Render Dyer of Carrollton, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Sybil Boatright of Whitesburg, Ga.; grandchildren, Eric and Debbie Sauls, Nathan and Jane Sauls, Curt Sauls, Chuck and Ginger Harper, Chad and Kim Harper and Keri and Chris Denney; also 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Jan. 8, at 2 p.m. from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Bro. Jimmy Henry officiating. Music will be provided by Wayne Harris. Pallbearers will be Chuck Harper, Chad Harper, Chris Denney, Eric Sauls, Nathan Sauls and Curt Sauls. Interment will follow in Carroll Memory Gardens.

JAMES CASTLEBERRY

Mr. James Edward Clayton Castleberry of Roopville, Ga., passed away on Jan. 5, 2009. He was 75.

Mr. Castleberry was born in Red Level, Ala., on Dec. 24, 1933, to the late Eddie and Irene Daisy South Castleberry. He was employed by Covington Company County, Alabama, and was a member of Sardis Baptist Church.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Roy Castleberry, Harce Castleberry and Velma Odum.

Survivors include his children and their spouses, Dale and Peggy Holloway of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., Billy and Jan Cassidy of Roopville, Ga., Joel and Ann Watson of Brownsville, N.J., and Edward and Cindy Castleberry of Roopville, Ga.; his grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Stone of Carrollton, Ga., Amy Denise Murray of California, Erin Diane Logan of Samson, Ala., Carrie Gellene Cassidy of Roopville, Ga., Melodie Lyn Noles of Graham, Ala., Amanda Rose Windom of Roopville, Ga., and Hannah Elizabeth Patterson of Franklin, Ga.; and his great-grandchildren, Joshua Alexander Stone and Michael Wayne Thomas Stone, both of Carrollton, Ga., Calvin Murray and Shelby Paige Murray Lane, both of California, Charlie Clayton Logan of Samson, Ala., and Hayden Parker Windom of Roopville, Ga.

Funeral services for Mr. James Castleberry will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. at the Chapel of Rainwater Funeral Home. Rev. Darnell Teal and Rev. Joel Watson will officiate. Music will be furnished by Cindy Castleberry, Joyce Arp, and Phyllis Cummings. Interment will follow the funeral services in the Veal Community Cemetery.

DR. VINCENT LOUTHAN

Dr. Vincent Alan Louthan of 662 Wedowee St., Bowdon, Ga., passed away Friday, Jan. 2, 2009, after a brief illness.

Dr. Louthan was born April 20, 1936, in Moline, Ill., to the late George Ross Louthan and the late Margaret Collings Welch. Vincent A. Louthan attended Illinois Wesleyan in Illinois and received his Bachelor of Arts in 1958. He was awarded his Ph.D. in English Literature Renaissance in 1968, from the University of Connecticut.

He is survived by his two daughters and their husbands, Barbara and Wesley Robinson of Bowdon, Georgia, and Alexandra (Sasha) and Jeff Tocio of Decatur, Georgia. Also surviving are sister, Diane Smith of Moab, Utah; brother and sister-in-law, Bruce and Vonda Louthan of Moab, Utah and brother, James Seedorf of California. Also surviving are grandchildren, Case Rogers, Shade Robinson, Benjamin Alan Tocio, and step-grandchildren, Lauren Robinson, Adam Tocio, and many nieces and nephews.

A private family memorial service will be planned at a later date.

MASTER SERGEANT HAROLD WATKINS I

Master Sergeant Harold Loyd Watkins, I, 78, of Temple, Ga., passed away on January 5, 2009, at his residence.

He was born in Douglasville, Ga., on Dec. 27, 1930, son of Frank Goldin Watkins and Ollie Esther Swofford. He was retired from the U.S. Air Force with 23 years of service and was a member of Unity Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Jo Shults Watkins; children, Harold, Randall, Michael, Barbara, Carolyn, Robert, Susan and Scott and children-in-law, Donna, Mark and Allen; grandchildren, Sheree, Tater, Jennifer, Heather, Kimberly, Charity, Stephanie, Whitley, Taylor, Cheyenne and Zach; great-grandchildren, Brent, Jillian, Jeffery, Lakin, Laney, Christopher, Jocelyn, Jayden, Bryson and Brayden; sister, Elaine Coe and many other beloved family members and friends.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 8, at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Jeff Eberhart Funeral Home with Rev. Marvin Plunkett and Harold Watkins II officiating.

Music will be by Jeff Eberhart. Interment will follow in New Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Harold Watkins, Randall Watkins, Michael Watkins, Robert Watkins, Scott Watkins, Tater Watkins. Full military honors at gravesite.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m. and from 9 a.m. until the service begins on Thursday.
