This past Friday through Sunday the Carrollton Bluefins swim team hosted 10 other teams for the annual Bluefin Fall Classic, which featured a total of more than 500 swimmers including the home team. The event took place in the renovated Lakeshore Natatorium.

“It’s nice to have a place like that,” coach David Weeks said.

These Bluefin swimmers had top-three finishes over the weekend: Sam Anderson (13-14 boys), 3rd in 200 breast; Cameron Back (11-12 boys), 1st 200 IM, 500 free, 50 free, 100 fly, 50 fly, 2nd 200 free and 100 back, 3rd 100 free; Jackson Crews (7-8 boys), 2nd 25 breast, 50 back; Cade Crews (9-10 boys), 1st 50 breast, 2nd 100 breast; Kelly Fazio (13-14 girls), 1st 100 breast, 100 fly, 200 breast and 200 IM, 3rd 100 back; Caleb Griffin, 15-18 boys, 3rd 200 breast; Cassie Griffin (9-10 girls), 1st 100 breast, 2nd 50 back, 3rd 100 fly; Joshua Grover (13-14 boys), 1st 200 fly, 2nd 400 IM, 100 breast, 200 back, 200 free, 100 free, 200 breast and 100 back, 3rd 500 free; Megan Hooper (11-12 girls), 1st 50 fly, 3rd 200 IM and 500 free; Carolyn Ives (11-12 girls), 1st 50 free, 100 breast, 50 back, 200 free, 100 free, 50 breast, 100 back and 100 back, 2nd 400 IM; Charlie Lanier (7-8 boys), 2nd 25 back, 3rd 50 free; Morgan Leahey (11-12 girls), 2nd 50 fly, 3rd 100 free; Ty Montemoino (13-14 boys), 1st 50 free, 3rd 100 breast, 100 fly, 100 free, 100 back and 200 IM; Sean Moren (13-14 boys), 2nd 100 fly; Adria Pierce (7-8 girls), 3rd 50 free; Connor Pierce (15-18 boys) 1st 400 IM, 500 free, 200 back, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 free, 100 back, 200 fly and 200 IM; Richard Russell (15-18 boys), 1st 50 free and 200 breast, 2nd 500 free, 100 breast, 200 back, 200 free,100 free, 100 back, and 200 IM; Jacob Smith (15-18 boys), 2nd 200 breast, 3rd 400 IM.

Meanwhile, these Bluefin swimmers posted best times: Sam Anderson (13-14 boys), Nikki Gipson (9-10 girls), Trey Gresham (9-10 boys), Caleb Griffin (15-18 boys), Kate Griffin (9-10 girls), Ty Montemoino (13-14 boys), Justin Purchase (15-18 boys), Kathryn Sevy(13-14 girls), Will Sammon (11-12 boys), Wright Shulenburg (6&U boys), Olivia Strickland (7-8 girls), Simon Shumake (9-10 boys).

Ty Montemoino, Cade Crews, Kelly Fazio, Cassie Griffin, Joshua Grover, Megan Hooper, Carolyn Ives and Andrew Shiver qualified for their age group state competition.

Cassie Griffin, Joshua Grover, Carolyn Ives, Ty Montemoino qualified for their age group sectionals competition, which includes eight states.

The Bluefins have 45 new swimmers, who Weeks said are excelling.

Sixty-one percent of the Bluefins’ swims were best times, which includes first-time swims that are legal.
