The Bremen High School football team hit the road Friday and put a 49-14 hurting on Trion, scoring 49 unanswered before the Bulldogs finally got on the board.

Heading into next Friday’s region championship showdown against Bowdon, the Blue Devils (8-1, 5-0 Region 6-A) have now won six straight and have scored at least 33 points in each of those games.

Facing an option offense, Blue Devil coach Ricky Tolleson said his players did what they prepared to do against the Bulldogs.

“Our defense had a good plan and executed it quite well,” Tolleson said.

What it came down to, he said, was a focus on the basics.

“Our kids played good, fundamentally-sound football against an option team,” Tolleson said.

Now comes the home game against the Red Devils, as the two teams will enter the contest with a combined one loss overall. Neither has lost in region play.

“It’s great for high school football. You’ve got two local rivals that will be playing,” Tolleson said. “It should be a great atmosphere. It’s a playoff-type atmosphere.”

The Bremen coach is just glad the game will be on his home turf.

“I sure am glad it’s our home gate,” Tolleson said.
