Two Temple teens and a Franklin man were arrested in Coweta County this week on burglary charges, but the three suspects also face charges in Carroll County and two others.

Zachary Robert Martel, 28, of Franklin; Jon Joseph Perry and Joe Vincent Jr., both 18-year-old Temple residents, were arrested in Coweta County earlier this week. All three face charges of burglary and criminal attempt to commit burglary by the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, but the trio faces a number of similar charges in three other counties.

A number of home and store burglaries in Carrollton, Temple and other areas of Carroll County were reported in September. Although burglary is a notoriously difficult crime to solve, authorities believe that those who committed at least two of the Carroll County burglaries are now behind bars.

Capt. Shane Taylor of the Sheriff’s Office said he was contacted on Monday, Oct. 20, by Coweta County authorities. Two Carroll County investigators, Jimmy Adams and Stephen Stollar, went to the Coweta County jail to interview the three suspects concerning two September burglaries in Carroll County.

Taylor said that on Sept. 3 at around 2 a.m., three suspects were seen driving up to Luv’s Country Store on West Highway 5 in Tyus in a dark-colored vehicle. A witness reported that the three suspects used a metal object to break out a window in the front of the store, enter the business and leave. The witness was unable to get a tag number for the vehicle but called authorities, who confirmed that the store’s cash register was stolen during the burglary.

Just over two hours later at around 4:10 a.m., deputies responded to an alarm that was activated at the Circle W Shoppette on South Highway 16 between Carrollton and Whitesburg. Taylor said that although one of the store’s front windows was broken out in the same manner as the window at Luv’s Country Store earlier that morning, nothing was reported missing from the business. Taylor said it is believed that the suspects were scared away by an audible alarm.

Martel, Perry and Vincent were arrested in Coweta County after a witness claimed the three men were bragging about committing burglaries in Coweta County. Taylor said that after Martel, Perry and Vincent were arrested in Coweta County, one of the men described the burglary at one of the Carroll County stores. According to Taylor, all three suspects eventually admitted to both Carroll County burglaries.

In addition to Carroll and Coweta counties, Martel, Perry and Vincent also face burglary charges in Heard and Pike counties. Taylor did not know the total number of charges each suspect is facing.

All three suspects are currently being held in the Coweta County jail with holds placed, meaning that once their cases in Coweta County have been disposed of they will have to face their charges in the other counties as well.
