This Saturday local residents will have the chance to have some fun and take part in a city tradition by attending the 15th Annual Bremen Towne Festival.

The festival, which is free to the public, is being sponsored by the Bremen Junior Women’s Club and will be held on Oct. 18 on Tallapoosa Street from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. In addition to having more than 40 vendors present, the festival will also feature a costume contest at 9:45 a.m. and a parade at 10 p.m.

According to Bremen Better Hometown Manager Julia Stephenson, the event’s organizers are expecting a large turnout.

“This year, if anything is said by the amount of vendors, it’s going to be bigger than ever,” said Stephenson. “Last year I think we turned out over 2,000 people. Hopefully, this year we’ll be closer to 3,000. We’ve had a huge amount of vendors wanting to participate in this year’s event. We’re running out of room, which is a wonderful problem to have.”

The festival will be hosting a variety of vendors with a variety of products, including arts, crafts, children’s activities and food.

“You name it, it will be there,” Stephenson said.

This year’s festival will also be hosting an event titled Art in the Afternoon, which is being sponsored by the Bremen Better Hometown Program. There will be a special section roped off for the display of fine arts, such a pottery, stain glass and paintings from local artists.

“We’re trying to give the people of Bremen a preview of what kind of talent there is in the county,” Stephenson said.

The event will have between six and 10 booths on display featuring local artists. Art in the Afternoon was originally scheduled for June, but delayed due to a lack of participation. Stephenson hopes that by being present at the festival, the art event will eventually gain enough notoriety to branch off into it’s own separate event.

Also present at the festival will be a Bremen booth that will be handing out pins and information in recognition of the city’s 125th anniversary.

According to Stephenson, local residents should come visit the fair to support their downtown, their local artists and vendors and to show some town pride.
