EMILY ELLIS

Mrs. Emily Garrett Ellis, age 77, of Ingram Road, Carrollton, Georgia, passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2008.

She was born November 13, 1930 in Carroll County, Ga., the daughter of the late Mary P. Garrett and Harvey J. Garrett.

Mrs. Ellis was a lifelong member of New Hope United Methodist Church. She graduated from Mt. Zion High School in 1948 and attended West Georgia College. She married Jason G. Ellis, February 16, 1951 and following his retirement from the U.S. Air Force, she began a career in banking working her entire 24 year career at the Maple Street Branch of Peoples Bank and worked there through several ownership changes.

Survivors include her husband, Jason G. Ellis; brother and sister-in-law, Norris A. and Jo Garrett of Carrollton; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Julius and Sylvia Ellis of Tallapoosa, Gladys and Howard Smith of Waco, Charlotte and Clyde Blount of Pennsylvania, Merrill and Carolyn Ellis, and Merylyn and Carolyn Ellis, all of Tallapoosa; nieces, Debra Garrett Nowacki and Mike of Carrollton; nephews, Barry and Pat Garrett of Pittsburg, and Jerry and Leigh Garrett of Yorktown, Va.; also several grand-nieces and grand-nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at 2 p.m. from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Dr. Dean Milford officiating. Pallbearers will be Mike Smith, Howard Smith, Jerry Garrett, Barry Garrett, Mike Nowacki and Christopher Garrett. Music will be provided by Mike and Shelby Smith. Interment will follow in New Hope United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Fran Connell officiating.

MILFORD FOLDS

Mr. Milford Jewell Folds, age 76, of Old Goshen Church Road Roopville, Ga., passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2008 at his residence. He was born April 13, 1932 in Heard County, Ga., the son of the late Mary Jane Folds and Marion Folds. Mr. Folds was a retired pulpwooder and truck driver. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Bobby Jewell Folds and Timothy Allan Folds; daughter, Beverly Jean Folds, brothers, Robert, J.C., Clint, Ray “Pokey”, Cecil and Watson Folds; and his sisters, Rachel Shelnutt and Louise Skipper.

Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Burnese Buchanan Folds; children and their spouses, Tony and Jan Folds of Carrollton, and Betty and Lee Turner of Roopville; sisters and brother-in-law, Hazel Goodman of Tallapoosa, and Ella Mae and Virgil Holcombe of Gray, Ga.; brother and sister-in-law, Billy and Tommie Lou Folds of Carrollton; grandchildren, Toby and Karen Folds of Roopville, Carri & Chris Newsome of Carrollton, Beverley and J.P. Dodson of Carrollton, Kurtis Dawson of Roopville, and Jared Folds of Greenville, S.C.; great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Deverik Folds of Roopville, Crislin and Jenna Newsome and Karlee Dodson, all of Carrollton; also a number of nieces and nephews; and special friend Happy, his dog; and Sammy Daniel.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, at 2 p.m. from Goshen Southern Congregational Methodist Church with Rev. Wayne Webb, Rev. Steve Arrington and Mr. Wayne Mock officiating. Music will be provided by Brian Vaughn and Jerri Dinning. Pallbearers will be Steven Folds, Billy Folds, Wayne Folds, Alton Skipper, Randall Skipper and Danny Folds. Honorary pallbearers will be Dusty Smith, Sammy Daniel, Colt Smith, Dusty Lepard, Richard Folds, Barry Folds, Danny Turner and Ricky Vaughn. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

CLEMMIE WALKER

Mrs. Clemmie Lou Dilworth Walker, of Bonner Goldmine Road, Carrollton, Ga., beloved wife, mother, sister, and friend, passed away suddenly Sunday morning, Aug. 17, 2008.

Mrs. Walker was born Aug. 4, 1929 to the late George David Dilworth and Lucile Sawyer Dilworth in Birmingham, Alabama. Her maternal grandparents were Thomas Carson Sawyer and Daisy Gibbs Sawyer, and her paternal grandparents were John David Dilworth and Clemmie Price Dilworth. She attended Elementary Schools Old Minor and New Minor in the suburb of Ensley, Ala., finishing 8th grade in 1943, Phillips High School in 1947, then attended Alabama College for Women in Montevallo, Ala.

She is survived by her husband, Grady Cecil Walker, whom she married on June 14, 1952; daughters and sons-in-law, Cleto and Leslie Elaine Montelongo of Palmetto, Ga., Carol Cecile Walker of Carrollton, Ga., and John Kenneth and Nancy Kay Arnold of Atlanta, Ga.; and six grandchildren, Dorian Eric Grant, Jessica Kelly Kunkler, Marla Renee Kunkler, Sean Walker Arnold, Casey Ellen Arnold, and Elaina Marie Montelongo. She is also survived by her sister, Phyllis Ann Briscoe, of Newnan, Ga.

Mrs. Walker was a member of St. James United Methodist Church, Atlanta, Ga., from 1962 until she moved to Carrollton in 1980. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Carrollton since 1980. She was active in both Churches, serving her Lord as an Adult Leader in the Disciple Study Series, Children and Youth Sunday School teacher, Alternate Lay Person for Annual Conferences, United Methodist Women in several capacities, twice as President. She also served on the Board of Trustees of the United Methodist Children’s Home, and the Committee of Unity and International Concerns of the North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church Council on Ministries.

Working in the church’s outreach ministry at Carroll County prison, she joined Inside Ministries, Inc. This organization ministers to women prisoners in the local jail. She was President of the organization and did weekly visits to the prison teaching Bible Study and Life Skills to the prisoners, helping these women after they are released to reenter society and become productive members.

She joined the Carrollton Civic Woman’s Club in 1981. While serving as Chairperson of the Conservation Department, they won the Club’s first Georgia Federation of Women’s Clubs State First Place Award for Conservation. She also served as CCWC’s President from 1990-1992 and enjoyed the many community service projects of the Club through the years.

She was a voracious reader and student of life. She loved to sing and play the piano. She was an avid gardener, bird enthusiast, and lover of nature. She belonged to Garden Clubs, Books Clubs, and Literature Study Groups. She had an eye for beauty and demonstrated her artistic flair throughout her home and garden. Her motto was to “Live Life Joyfully!”

Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008, at 11 a.m. at First United Methodist Church of Carrollton, Ga. with Pastor Eddie Herring, Dr. Jimmy Thurman, and Dr. Bill Holt officiating. John K. Arnold, Sean Walker Arnold, Dorian E. Grant, David Briscoe, David Chambers, Douglas Gray, Alan Gray, and Taylor Shadrix will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be members of Inside Ministries, Inc., and members of the Christian Fellowship Class of First United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Inside Ministries, Inc., P.O. Box 2191, Carrollton, Ga. 30112 and First United Methodist Church of Carrollton.

Interment to follow at Arlington Cemetery in Atlanta at 3 p.m.

Family will receive friends at Almon Funeral Home on Wednesday, Aug. 20, 2008, from 6 to 9 p.m.

ALICE MILLER

Alice Faye Young Miller, 69, of Chris Court, Temple, died Monday, Aug. 18, 2008.

Mrs. Miller was born Feb. 21, 1939, in Covington County, Ala., to the late Noah Leonard Young and Alma Gertrude Kilpatrick Young. She retired after 23 years of service as a manager with the Krystal Corp.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Merie Miller, Mary Ellen Welsolick, and a brother, James Young.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Allen Miller; her children and their spouses, Valerie and Bob Oglevie of Middleburg, Fla., Thomas O’Neal (Buddy) Moore Jr. of Jonesboro, Deion Alexander and Brenda Moore of Heflin, Ala., Randall Allan and Barbara Moore of Pittsburgh, Pa., Robert Eugene and Jessica Moore of Temple; sisters, Linda Gail Berry of Elba, Ala., and Glenda Sue Bazmore of Orange Park, Fla.; brother, Leonard Young of Crestview, Fla.; seven granddaughters, five grandsons, one great-grandchild and number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, Aug. 20, at 1:30 p.m. CST from the Carolina Baptist Church with Dr. Matt Brady officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church from 12:30 p.m. CST until the funeral hour.

Ruby L. Dukes Baldwin of 58 Greenwood St., Bremen, died Aug. 16, 2008.

Funeral services will be Thursday, Aug. 21, at 1 p.m. at Crawford Chapel United Methodist Church in Bremen. Burial will follow in the Antioch Church cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday, Aug. 20, from 1 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
