Villa Rica High School substitute teacher Bryan Joshua Driver, 21, was arrested Thursday on two counts of child molestation and one count of enticing a child for indecent purposes, the Villa Rica Police Department said.

Driver, who had worked for the Carroll County school system for six months, allegedly exchanged inappropriate text and photographic messages with a 15-year-old female student. The student reportedly turned over her cell phone containing messages and sexually explicit pictures both to and from the student to School Resource Officer Carol Collett.

According to a press release from the Villa Rica Police Department, Driver admitted to the charges and said he knew the child’s age and suspected the behavior was illegal.

“Everything that’s reported he’s charged with he’s admitted to to law enforcement,” Capt. Brian Camp said.

The case is still being investigated. However, police believe there are no additional students involved, Camp said.

Driver was transferred to the Carroll County Jail where he was released on $25,000 property bond on the condition that he have no contact with the student. His arraignment is scheduled for June 25.

Elena Schulenburg, spokeswoman for Carroll County Schools, said Driver had not worked at any system schools other than Villa Rica High.

This is the second time in just over two months that a teacher from Villa Rica High School has been arrested on sex-related charges. In February, Loren Henley, turned himself in to the Floyd County Sheriff’s Office for possessing child pornography.

The Carroll County system does a full criminal background check as well as checking personal references for all teacher applicants before hiring them, Schulenburg said.

“We do our own fingerprinting in house and then it’s sent electronically to the GBI and the FBI,” Schulenburg said. “It’s unfortunate that you can go through a full background check but sometimes it’s, if someone doesn’t have a record, it doesn’t indicate things that they do in their personal life.”

All teachers, substitute and certified, are required to attend ethics training each year, she added.
