Hope Hendrix, 10, watches as Georgina Deweese, a professor in the Geography Department at the University of West Georgia, demonstrates how to core a tree. Hope's mother, Tamantha, is a student studying Early Childhood Education at UWG. According to Deweese, tree coring is used primarily to reconstruct climate. The demonstration was part of an Earth Day celebration at UWG in Love Valley. UWG’s Earth Day events were co-hosted by the Geography Honors Society and the GeoSciences Department at UWG.
