For the first time in program history, the Carrollton High School boys soccer team is ranked No. 1 in the state at the Class AAA level.
The Trojans moved up to the No. 1 spot in the rankings released Tuesday and defeated Sandy Creek later in the evening, 1-0, at home in a Region 6-AAA game. Michael Derbecker scored the lone goal 10 minutes into the game on a Logan Waters assist.
Carrollton (10-1, 5-0 Region 6-AAA) will play Friday at Westminster, the No. 2 team in Class AAA.

Carrollton girls 6, Sandy Creek 1: Brittany Joyce scored three goals while Heather Joyce, Emerald Phillips and Brittany Watkins each had one goal for the Lady Trojans (8-5, 4-1 Region 6-AAA).
Carrollton boys JV 1, East Coweta 0: Joel Smith scored the lone goal as the Trojans (9-0) remained unbeaten with the victory Monday.
Central Middle School 7, Jonesville 1: Pablo Castillo scored three goals for the Lions while Anna Leah Deese, Brian Gonzales, Matthew Balte and Tucker Simpkuns each had one goal for Central on Monday. The Lions will play for the Carroll County Middle School championship on Thursday.
Prep Golf
Bremen 156, Villa Rica 224: The Blue Devils were led by Jessie Jones, who shot a 35 (one under par) to help Bremen defeat Villa Rica at The Lion on Tuesday. Jones was followed by Matthew Hatchett with a 37, Kendall Carroll with a 39 and Mitch Folds, who shot 45.
Prep Tennis
Carrollton girls 3, Cartersville 2: Rebeccah Buchanan won at No. 3 singles (6-4, 6-3) for Carrollton. Maggie Fletcher and Amanda Stewart won at No. 1 doubles (7-5, 6-2) while Caroline Colpini and Joyce Nakano won at No. 2 doubles (6-3, 7-5). The Lady Trojans improve to 7-3 overall and 5-0 in Region 6-AAA.
Cartersville boys 4, Carrollton 1: Roger Schoerner picked up Carrollton’s only win at No. 3 singles (1-6, 6-3, 6-4). The Trojans fall to 3-2 in Region 6-AAA.
Prep Track
Central Middle School boys 93, Sewell 29, Mt. Zion 15: Central’s James Phillips won the long jump, 100-meter dash and 200-meter dash. Other winners for Central include: Patrick Gamble, shotput; Jabby Thomas, high jump; Javea Chapman, 400-meter run; Seth Brown, 1600-meter run; and Deanta Johnson, 100-meter hurdles.
Fairplay Middle School girls 63, Central 51, Mt. Zion 18, Sewell 9: Deanna Moore won the 100-meter dash and Kayla Byerly won the 100-meter hurdles for Central.
