Veronica Brady, Tony Colquitt, Louise Swearingen, Mary Ann Verdel, Mildred Redding

VERONICA BRADY

Veronica Elouise Brady was born to the late Alonza Bell Jr. and Rubie Lee Sims Bell on November 11, 1949, in Roanoke, Alabama.

At an early age, Veronica joined Wehadkee Missionary Baptist Church in Roanoke and later moved her membership to Mt. Lowell Baptist Church in Carrollton, Georgia. She also attended The Rock Praise and Worship Center.

On January 20, 1979, Veronica was united in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Simmie Tereaon Brady.

Veronica departed this life on January 28, 2008. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Oliver Bell, Rufus Bell, Clea Otis Bell and Ernest Bell; and three sisters, Laura Bell, Lena McPherson, and Lora McPherson.

She leaves to cherish her precious memories a husband, Mr. Simmie T. Brady; four children, Robin Bell, Rev. Terrence (Libby) Bell, Tawanna (Twaskie) Coleman and Shawn Brady, all of Carrollton; eight grandchildren, Tiffany Bell, Jalan Gilbert, Jamal Gilbert, Shanteria Wicker, Shemar Wicker, Shaniah Brady, Shakhia Coleman and Zaria Bell; one brother, William Bell of Decatur, Georgia; two sisters, Naomi Sue (Parrish) Rembert of Washington, D.C., Joannette (Lorenzo) David of Townsend, Delaware; and a special friend, Mrs. Evon Paige; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 2, 2008 at 1 p.m. at In The Master’s Hand Church on King Bridge Road, Carrollton.

The visitation will be held on Friday, February 1, 2008, from 1 to 8 p.m. at Duane A. Jackson Mortuary in Carrollton.

ANTHONY COLQUITT

Mr. Anthony Lee “Tony” Colquitt, age 53, of Glenloch Rd., Franklin, Georgia, passed away Thursday, January 31, 2008.

He was born November 11, 1954, in Morristown, Tennessee, the son of Elizabeth Harbor Green and Gene Colquitt. Mr. Colquitt worked for Georgia Power Company as a Senior Instrument Control Technician for 33 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, mostly kayaking, camping and hiking, and his other interests included woodworking and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Denise Branch Colquitt; his daughter and son-in-law, Summer and Adrian Rogers of Villa Rica; his father, Gene Colquitt of Rainbow City, Alabama; his mother and stepfather, Elizabeth and Lex Green of Cave Spring, Georgia; three sisters and brother-in-law, Kathy Mason of Cave Spring, Diane and Scott Hufnagel of Dade City, Florida, and Gena Roberts of Cave Spring; and also two granddaughters, Kendall and Kayla Rogers.

Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, February 3, 2008, at 4 p.m. from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Mr. Butch Standish officiating. Interment will follow in Ephesus Cemetery. LOUISE SWEARINGEN

Mrs. Louise Elizabeth Whatley Swearingen, 90, of Poplar Street, Bremen, Georgia, passed away January 30, 2008.

Mrs. Swearingen was born February 1, 1917, in Fulton County, Georgia, the daughter of the late James Neighbors and Daisy Edwards Eaves. She was a homemaker and a member of First Baptist Church of Bremen.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy L. Whatley; her second husband, C. Dale Swearingen; and a grandson, William C. Whatley Jr.

Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Charles Carroll of Bremen; son, William C. (Bill) Whatley of Cumming, Georgia; and grandchildren, David Carroll, Susan and Craig Easterwood, Tim and Crystal Carroll, all of Bremen, Michael, Russell and Sheryl Whatley, all of Cumming.

Services will be conducted February 1, 2008, at 4 p.m. from the First Baptist Church of Bremen with Brother Herman Parker and Mr. Ed Garner officiating. Music will be provided by The Golden Tones and Walter Kirk accompanied by Maxine House and Sara Calhoun. Doug Grizzard, Eric Luckey, Billy Sims, Frank Bland, Frank Horton, Bobby Robinson, Donnie Arp and Arnold Willegalle will serve as pallbearers. Bobby Moore, Larry Hobbs, Fellowship Sunday School Class and Countryside Health Center employees will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Private graveside services will be conducted Saturday, February 2, 2008, at East View Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia.

MARY VERDEL

Mrs. Mary Ann Norman Verdel, age 72, of N. Hwy 113, Carrollton, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, January 29, 2008.

She was born August 6, 1935 in Carroll County, Georgia, to the late Clara Muse Shadrix and Wilmer Shadrix. Mrs. Verdell was a retired grocery store manager and a member of Abilene Baptist Church. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, Alvin Wiley Norman and Stanley Verdel; a daughter, Deborah Norman; and a sister, Elsie Shadrix Shadix.

Survivors include her children and their spouses, Jeff and Tina Norman, Denise Norman and Dana Harris, all of Carrollton, Jeannie and Bill Alexander of Atlanta, Georgia, Anne and Bill Yanson, Nancy and Steve Seiter, and Dr. Ellen Verdel, all of Tampa, Florida; a brother and sister-in-law, Harry and Glenda Shadrix of Temple, Georgia; three grandchildren, Kyle Norman of Carrollton, Chris Brooks of Macon, Georgia, and April Brooks of Lithia Springs, Georgia; and also a great-granddaughter, Kimberly Brooks.

Funeral services will be conducted Friday, February 1, 2008, at 2 p.m. from Martin & Hightower Heritage Chapel with Rev. H. T. Henderson officiating. Pallbearers will be Terry Shadrix, Kyle Norman, Robie Shadrix, Jack Ryder, Kirby Norman, Joe Kierbow, Scott Shadrix and Dennis Norman. Honorary pallbearers will be Levi Ryder and Hunter Ryder. Music will be provided by Terry Shadrix. Interment will follow in Abilene Baptist Church Cemetery.

MILDRED REDDING

Mildred Davis Redding of Oak Street, Bremen, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2008.

Mrs. Redding was born in Haralson County on March 28, 1928, daughter of the late Ivy and Ruby Smith Davis. She was the retired owner of the M & W Caf© and a member of the Bremen First Baptist Church.

Survivors include her husband, Guy Redding Jr. of Bremen; son and daughter-in-law, Randall and Tena Redding of Bremen; daughter, Rebecca Hammock of Fayetteville; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ann and Ed Davis of Bremen, Willie Mae (Billie) and George (Junior) Robinson of Bremen; and three grandchildren.

Services will be Friday, Feb. 1, at 2 p.m. from the Bremen First Baptist Church with Brother Herman Parker and Mr. Ed Garner officiating. Music will be furnished by Randall Redding, Ed and Carol Hogan accompanied by Sue Ezzell and Sara Calhoun. Mark Robinson, Ronnie Hitchcock, Scott Stanford, Steve Lenderman. Keith Redding and Richard Lusk will serve as pallbearers.

Burial will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Bremen First Baptist Church Building Fund.
