Victor League turned himself into Carrollton Police on Nov. 14, 2005, after news reports circulated about a fatal hit and run accident the day before. According to police, Casimiro “Cas” Soto, 54, of Carrollton, was killed sometime between 1:30 and 2 a.m. when he was struck by League’s 2000 Cadillac Escalade.
Assistant District Attorney Vince Faucette said League was sentenced to 15 years, to serve nine. After being released from incarceration, League will have to attend some sort of rehabilitation program.
“He was involved in a drug court program at the time the accident occurred, but there was no evidence that Mr. League was intoxicated at the time it occurred,” Faucette said.
Carrollton Police Capt. Daryl Diamond said Soto was walking westbound in the grass of Bankhead Highway when he was hit by League, who was driving east.
“Mr. Soto was dead on the scene,” Diamond said. “The vehicle left the scene.”
Faucette said the victim’s family was satisfied with the plea bargain.
“We sat down with law enforcement as well as the wife of Mr. Soto and everyone was agreeable with the outcome,” he said.
