A man who shot at a deputy Monday was able to elude police by running into the woods in Temple. No one was hurt during the incident.

According to Carroll County Sheriff’s Capt. Shane Taylor, a deputy responded to a call about a suspicious person on Lovell Road shortly after 5 p.m. When the deputy arrived about 20 minutes later, the suspect was still in the caller’s yard, and the deputy tried to approach him.

Taylor said when the deputy identified himself, the suspect allegedly began running into the woods and turned to fire a shot. The suspect shot two more times and the deputy drew his gun, he said.

“The deputy never did fire a shot,” he said.

The Georgia State Patrol helped the sheriff’s office in searching for the suspect, but he was not located. Taylor said the suspect ran toward Highway 113.

The suspect was described as a black man in his mid-30s, 5-foot-10, with a medium build and short hair and wearing blue jeans and a blue shirt.
