Advance voting for the Nov. 6 election is underway at the Carroll County Board of Elections office.

Election Supervisor Patti Brown-Traylor said advance voting provides an opportunity for Carroll County residents to vote on their own time instead of making time on election day. She said that anyone can vote in advance; they do not need a reason.

“It’s just more convenient for the voters,” she said.

Brown-Traylor said that in many elections, a significant portion of residents vote in advance. She did not, however, believe that advance voting helps draw more people to the polls — saying many who utilize the advance voting option would vote regardless of whether the early option was available.

Brown-Traylor said that both municipal and special elections usually have a low voter turnout.

“They will probably vote more in municipalities that have contested elections,” she said. However, the entire county will vote on a referendum regarding the county commission chairman’s role and the question of a county manager.

No voting will be allowed on Monday and polls will be open for regular voting from 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Nov. 6. Brown-Traylor said that vote consolidation would begin Tuesday evening just after the polls close, and results would be posted on the election board’s Web site, www.carrollgaelections.com.

The Board of Elections will be open for advance voting between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. until Nov. 2. Photo identification is required.
