A man was shot and killed in Villa Rica and another was in custody Saturday after an argument turned violent, according to authorities.
Sheriff’s deputies were still on the scene at 10 p.m. interviewing witnesses and had not released the name of the victim or the alleged shooter.
According to Capt. Shane Taylor, a group of at least three men and two women were at 15 South Villa Road when an argument broke out.
“The two females got into an argument, which got the males into a dispute,” Taylor said.
From what deputies had gathered, one of the men took a swing at the victim with a stick, and the victim went across the street to get a friend and some rifles, police said. When they returned, Taylor said, the victim stepped in front of the alleged shooter.
“His own buddy shot him,” Taylor said.
That man is in custody. Taylor said there were several witnesses that deputies were still interviewing.
“Some drinking was involved,” he said.
