No one was hurt in a Sunday night shooting that might have stemmed from a dispute between a divorcing couple. Police are still investigating what actually happened.
A woman called police around 9 p.m. reporting someone had shot at her grandson. A shattered windshield and a bullet lodged in the dashboard of the truck in which the grandson and his friends were riding show that shots were fired. Beyond that, the story varies.
According to a police report, one of the men who was shot at was standing at the corner of Avalon Drive and Sixth Street with a group when his soon-to-be ex-wife drove by several times and allegedly tried to hit him with her car. The man told police that he then left, as did the woman.
The man and two other men got into a truck and began driving south on Fourth Street. They turned onto Fifth Street where all three victims said another car pulled up next to them and opened fire. According to the three men, there were two women in the front of the car and a man in the back; the man was the alleged shooter and known to the victims.
Carrollton police reported that the back windshield of the truck had been shot and another bullet had lodged between the front windshield and dashboard. One of the three men in the car said a bullet “just missed” his head.
One witness to the shooting told police they had heard the victim’s wife say, “I’m going to kill him tonight,” as she left the men standing on the corner.
Police pulled over the woman at North Park and Myrtle streets. When pulled over, she allegedly said, “I bet I know what this is about.”
According to a police report, the woman said her husband had jumped in front of her car and then slapped her daughter, who was in the front seat. The woman said her husband was drunk and had chased after her on foot when she drove away.
The woman allegedly admitted to having spoken with the man identified as the shooter, but she said she did not ask him to kill anyone.
