A missing man whose body was found last week in a well near Bremen had been shot several times, according to the Haralson County Sheriff’s Department.

The body of Robert Shane Timms was recovered from the abandoned well late Friday night. Timms had been missing for four weeks.

“The case has been ruled a homicide,” said Haralson County Sheriff’s Deputy and Information Officer Jim Beck.

Beck said Timms’ body was sent to the state crime lab in Atlanta for positive identification, where the cause of death was ruled as multiple gunshot wounds.

Investigators found blood at the well but were unable to positively identify it as Timms’.

Bremen police, Haralson County investigators and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations began searching the area Friday after receiving a tip that there was a body in the well.

“We are still in the process of investigating the Timms case, and we received some information which led us to look in the well,” said Sheriff Eddie Mixon during Friday’s investigation.

The well is located on Old Ridgeway Road in Haralson County off Highway 78, on a vacant property known as Devil’s Kitchen.

The well is 62 feet deep and 36 inches in diameter, which made it difficult for investigators to enter immediately and investigations were temporarily halted Friday due to inclement weather.

The Sheriff’s Department believes the body was in the well for approximately one month.

Timms was initially identified by a Superman emblem on his right forearm and his initials, “WRST,” written in Old English on his inner right forearm.

Timms, 21, was reported missing June 19. The previous evening, Timms had gone to bed but when his family woke up he was gone.

After Timms was reported missing, Bremen police contacted both the GBI and the Haralson County Sheriff’s Department.

“We are continuing to interview people,” said Beck.

No suspects have been arrested in connection with the Timms case and Beck said that there were no persons of interest.

Beck said investigators will continue to follow up on information given to them about the case.

Funeral services for Timms will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen.
