Bowdon City Manager Donald Toms has been selected as a finalist for the position of city manager for Rincon, located north of Savannah on Highway 21.
According to the Savannah Morning News, Toms and Stuart Turille, of Matthews, N.C., were chosen from about 40 applicants.
“I am flattered that another city is interested in me and has listed me as a finalist in their process,” Toms said. “At this time, I have not received an official job offer but expect to hear something by the close of the business day on Friday, July 27, and will make my decision shortly thereafter.”
Toms has been the city manager for Bowdon for a year and a half now and said he is still very glad to work in Bowdon.
“I am extremely happy to be working in Bowdon with a great group of employees and a wonderful community and City Council,” he said.
Bowdon Mayor Jim Agan says he is just as pleased with Toms’ job performance.
“Don has been a good asset to the city of Bowdon and helpful in finding cost-effective ways to manage the government,” Agan said. “He’d be hard to replace.”
If Toms is offered the Rincon job and decides to accept it, Agan says the city would appoint an interim city manager until a replacement could be found.
“We advertise on our Web site and through the (Georgia Municipal Association),” Again said. “...Knowing the area is a plus, but we want to be sure we hire someone with the correct education and training who can serve the city best; After all, Toms came all the way from Kentucky.”
Even with the possibility of a new job in the future, Toms said he is staying focused on Bowdon.
“Right now my focus is on having the city of Bowdon ready for Founder’s Day,” he said.
