When was the last time you watched a bunch of kids take on law officials while you ate spaghetti and bid on a Travis Tritt guitar?

You will have the opportunity Saturday at the 17th Annual Spaghetti Dinner and Auction presented by the Boys & Girls Club in Douglas County. The event will be held at First United Methodist Church of Douglasville. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., and dinner begins at 7 p.m.

A silent auction will be held during dinner, but the live auction is scheduled after dinner. In addition to the Travis Tritt guitar, items for bid include an autographed photos from Atlanta Falcons’ quarterback Chris Ryan and former Atlanta Braves player Otis Nixon, and autographed baseballs from former Braves first baseman Kasey Kotchman and shortstop Rafael Furcal.

Other items up for grabs are a framed autographed Bob Hope photo, a bicycle, autographed posters from Dylan McDermott and Holly Hunter, a huge framed photo from The Sopranos TV show, and four fishing packages complete with rods, hats, tackles, minnow buckets and fillet knives. Coupons from several local restaurants and other businesses are available for bid, along with certificates for spa services and a sports bag containing his and hers fleece jackets.

One of the evening’s highlights will pit fifth-graders from Eastside, Winston, Arbor Station and other elementary schools represented by Boys & Girls Club members against Douglasville Police Chief Chris Womack, Deputy Chief Gary Sparks, Douglas County Sheriff Phil Miller and Major Mo Harper, Matthew Krull, of the Douglas County Solicitor General’s Office, and Amy Belcher, representing the city of Douglasville. Are they smarter than a Douglas County fifth-grader? Hmmm.

The local Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year, Devon Strickland, will give the invocation, and dinner will be prepared for the 17th year by the Brotherhood Class of First United Methodist Church. Boys Girls Club members will serve the food. The church is located at 6167 Prestley Mill Rd.

Co-chairs Davidae Walker and Chief Womack invite everyone to attend. Additional donations can be made to the Boys & Girls Club in Douglas County at 8828 Gurley Rd.

Individual tickets cost $10, with sponsorship opportunities ranging from $250 to $5,000. More information is available by calling Walker at 770-605-5129 or at Davidae.walker01@comcast,net.
