Mrs. Hayes was born on July 31, 1923, in Clay County, Alabama, to the late Robert and Eura Mae Hodnett Pitts. She was retired from Lamar Manufacturing Company where she worked as a seamstress. She was also a member Macedonia Baptist Church and, as a hobby, enjoyed quilting.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Hayes was preceded in death by her husbands, Edgar H. Thompson and Herbert Comer Hayes; her brother, James Madison Pitts; her sister, Robbie Lynn Cantrell, and her step-mother, Bessie Pitts.
Survivors include her daughters and son-in-law, Shirley Daniel of Bowdon, Ga., and Rena’ and Mark McAlpin of Heflin, Ala.; her sisters, Mary Jim Lowery of Ashland, Ala., and Carrie Faye Jackson of Bowdon; her grandchildren, Amanda Ivey, Shane McAlpin, Cody McAlpin, Tyler Pollard, and Trevor Cook; and her great-grandchildren, Brittany Daniel, Ashley Ramey, and Madison Ivey.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline Hayes will be held on Sunday, August 9, 2009, at 2 p.m. (Alabama Time) at Macedonia Baptist Church. Rev. Steve McGinnis, Rev. Roop Caswell, and Rev. Mark Merritt will officiate. Music will be furnished by the church choir and Mr. Kenneth Frost. Pallbearers will be Mrs. Hayes’ grandsons, Shane McAlpin, Cody McAlpin, Tyler Pollard, and Trevor Cook, and her nephews, Charles Jackson, Bruce Lowery, Joe Branch, and Daniel Ivey. Interment will follow the funeral services in the church cemetery.
Prior to the funeral services, Mrs. Hayes body will lie in the church from 1 to 2 p.m. (Alabama time).
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, August 8, from 5 to 8 p.m. (Georgia time).
