With a win Sunday in its final regular-season game, Douglasville American Legion Post 145 has gathered a little momentum heading into the Georgia State American Legion Tournament.

The tournament will be held at Hunter Park starting Wednesday and running through Sunday or Monday, with Post 145 the host teams for the 10-team double elimination event.

Douglasville Post 145 finished the season with a 26-10 overall record with a 12-4 region record.

Post 145 finished as the No. 2 team in its region and a fourth place finish in the overall state field. Douglasville will face tough Rockdale Post 77 in round one on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Post 145 has won three of four meetings over Rockdale. If Post 145 can win its first game, it will play again on Friday evening. Should they lose, Post 145 would drop into the losers bracket and have to play every day to fight its way to the championship.

With 10 teams playing for the state title, the seeding was based on each team’s actual winning percentage. Albany Post 30 only played four games but its 4-0 record gave them the No. 1 seed.

Conyers Post 77 finished as the No. 2 seed, winning Area 2 with a .875 winning percentage. Canton Post 45 took the No. 3 seed with a .750 winning percentage. Canton won the 3 area title. Douglasville also had a .750 win percentage for the No. 4 seed. Rockdale Post 77 finished in the fifth spot with a .563 winning percentage.

Dawsonville Post 247 is the No. 6 seed with a .500 record. Alpharetta is the No. 7 seed with a .417 winning percentage. Gainesville A’s took the No. 8 spot with a .333 winning percentage. Loganville finished as the No. 9 seed with a .188 mark. Albany’s other team, Post 512, came in last with a 0-4 record, losing all four games played to Albany Post 30.

Post 145’s head coach Kent Quinn feels his team has a very good chance to win the title. According to Quinn, Post 145 has a deep pitching rotation with a lineup that can go deep at any time.

Ryan Turner (9-1) may start in game one.

Leading 145’s offense is Jordan Quinn, currently hitting for a .469 average with 12 doubles, four triples and five home runs with 29 RBI. Next up is Michael Goodman, who is hitting .424. Avery Miller is currently hitting .375 with a team leading 32 RBI. Dusty Davis is hitting .340, just ahead of Justin Newport at .326.

Scouts are expected to be in attendance as there are still unsigned prospects that will be playing.

Game times will be 9 a.m., 12:30 p.m. 4 p.m., and 7:30 p.m. for a four-game daily schedule. All games will be nine innings. Admission is $8 daily and $20 for a tournament pass. Kids under 10 are free.

The Georgia Champion will travel to Sumter, S.C. for the Southeaster Region Aug. 6.
