Bremen city schools

Pre-registration for Bremen High School, Bremen Middle School and Bremen 4th and 5th Grade Academy for new students for the 2009-2010 school year who did not attend these schools during the 08-09 school year and would like to enroll for the 09-10 year, will be held Aug. 3-4 from 9 to 11 a.m. You must bring with your records from previously attended school and two proofs of city residency to apply for admission. Out-of-district students who have already been accepted have completed this pre-registration process and only need to register with all students on Aug. 11 Regular student registration on Aug. 11 is for returning students and students who have already pre-registered only. No new students will be allowed to register on that day.

Haralson County open house

Registration for all grades will be July 27-31 at prospective schools. Primary open house will be July 31 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Buchanan Primary School and Tallapoosa Primary School. Open house will be from 4 to 6 p.m. July 31 for Buchanan Elementary School and West Haralson Elementary School. Open House will be from 5 to 7 p.m. July 30 for Haralson County Middle School. High School Open House (Freshman Academy as well) will be from 4 to 6 p.m. July 30.

School supplies

The Bremen Food and Clothing Bank and the Haralson County Kiwanis Club will have its annual school supply giveaway at the Bremen High School Gym, located on Georgia Avenue, on July 18 from 9 a.m. to noon or while supplies last. Students must be in grades kindergarten through twelfth and have to be present to receive the supplies. For information call 770-537-0920.

IMPACT orientation

Memorial fund benefit

The William Hill Memorial Fund for Educational Excellence, Inc. has scheduled its 18th annual William Hill Memorial and Scholarship benefit on Sunday, July 19, at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary of the Mt. Newley Baptist Church, 4360 Stone Mountain St., Tallapoosa.

Summer movies

Warren P. Sewell Memorial Library of Bremen will host “Summer Movies at the Library” on Wednesdays during July. “Animation Domination” movies will be shown at 10:30 a.m. and “Family Fun Flicks” at 1 p.m. Popcorn and drinks will be served. Gospel benefit concert

There will be a gospel benefit concert on Saturday, July 25, at 7 p.m. at Copeland Hall in Bowdon. Performances will be by Babbie Mason, Homegrown, Heaven’s Echoes and Chaz Mason. Tickets are $20. The event is hosted by Tyus Baptist Church. For information or tickets call 770-258-5399.

Car wash

There will be a car was on July 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the McDonald’s restaurant on Hwy. 113 in Temple, just off I-20 exit 19. Donations will benefit the free medical clinic in Carroll County. For information call Sue at 678-563-5111.

Night at the Movies

Please join the City of Bremen and the Bremen Downtown Development Authority at 9 p.m. on July 25 as they will present Shreck on the big screen! Bring lawn chairs or a blanket to the Buchanan Street parking lot and enjoy a fun evening under the stars!

Gold Dust pageant

Bearden reunion

The annual Bearden family reunion will be held Sunday, July 26, in the fellowship hall at Antioch Baptist Church, old Hwy. 100 in the Buncombe Community. All family and friends of the late Henry Elbert and Nancy Everlena Moore Bearden are invited. Bring a covered dish and lunch will be at 1 p.m.

Fall Sports Registration

Bremen Parks & Recreation Department will be registering through July 31 for the following Youth Fall Sports: Flag Cheerleading and Flag Football ages 5-6, Soccer ages 4 - 12, Tackle Football and Cheerleading ages 7 - 12, Fall Baseball and Softball ages 7 - 14. Teen Summer Reading

Come join us for Teen summer Reading Tuesdays at 4 p.m. in July. On July 21, Galactic Quest comic book owner, author and artist will be here to WOW you! And to end the summer on July 28 come and create a tie-dye T-shirt to take home with you and eat some pizza!

Chicken and Clothing Que

Feed The Sheep Ministries of Bremen will host is 8th Annual Free Chicken and Clothing Que from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, July 18, in the vacant lot beside Tom’s Dry Cleaner on Hwy 78 East Bremen, Ga. Energy Assistance

Tallatoona CAP, Inc. Haralson HRDC will start a Cooling Energy Assistance Program for low-income households on Aug. 3. Priority intake for Elderly and Homebound households is from Aug. 3 through Aug. 7. The program will open to the general public on a first come first serve basis on Aug. 10. The program will provide a one-time benefit of $350 to clients who meet the eligibility criteria. At the time of your appointment, you must have: Proof of income for all household members for the last 30 days for all individuals 18 years or older. Most recent electric bill, legal proof of social security number for all household members.

Consumer Recall

Aqua-Leisure Industries announced a voluntary recall for inflatable baby floats due to drowning hazard. The leg straps in the seat of the float can tear, causing children to unexpectedly fall into or under the water, posing a risk of drowning. There has been 31 reports of float seats tearing, causing children to fall into or under the water. No injuries have been reported. The recalled inflatable baby floats were sold in a variety of styles and colors. There were fourteen different ones listed but due to space, you may call Aqua-Leisure at 866-807-3998 between 8:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. ET Monday-Friday or visit the firm’s Web site at www.aqualeisure.com. to see if the one you have is among the recalled items and is so, then Aqua-Leisure is offering a full refund.

Blue Devil Cheer Camp

Join us for this year’s Junior Camp where BHS Cheerleaders and their coaches will work with your child in the area of sideline chants, cheers, jumps, dance, and stunts from 10 a.m. to noon on Tues. Aug. 4 through 6 at the High School Gym. The camp is for upcoming kindergarten through eighth grade and the cost is $30. We will also review the proper conditioning needed for this activity as well as safety rules. They will learn about sign making and crowd involvement as we prepare for our very own “Pep Rally.” You are invited to see what they have learned as we end camp with the Pep Rally at 11:15 a.m. on Thursday Aug. 6. Cancer benefit

Kilgore Reunion

The Kilgore reunion will be held from noon until 4 p.m. Saturday, July 18, at the Tallapoosa Senior Center.

Picnic in the Park

The Bremen Parks & Recreation Department would like to invite all City of Bremen Citizens to pack a lunch and join us, family and friends for a “Picnic In the Park.” It will be held at Rock Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8. The tennis courts, playground and volleyball court will be available for those who would like to participate in activities (equipment will be provided for activities). We will also have an inflatable water slide for the kids, so make sure they bring a bathing suit and towel!

Possum Pickin’

Hope to see you at Possum Pickin’ on Head Avenue, Tallapoosa, this coming Saturday, July 18, when we will have four great bands beginning at 6:30 p.m. – a special time for July 18 only. The East Dixie Boys of Dallas start the show, followed by Rescued from Temple, the Burnt Biscuit Band (the Baggett Brothers) of Tallapoosa, and the Joe and Melanie Johnson Band. Josh Lyons will also be featured on harmonica. If rain greets us, we’ll move to the Old Tallapoosa High School auditorium, across the street from the League-Lowe Veterans Memorial at the intersection of Bowdon and Robertson Streets. Hot dogs, hamburgers and soft drinks will be sold, with a portion of the proceeds going to the Better Hometown projects. There’s no admission charge. Bring a chair and the family. Cub Scouts

If you are in the 1st through 5th grade come and join in. You can enroll at any time. You will earn badges and awards and compete in model car, boat and airplane races. We teach the boys about respect, loyalty and doing their best. We meet one day a week for and hour and a half. If you are looking for some summer fun and adventure come join us for the Cub Scout Eco-Rangers Twilight Camp from 5 - 9 p.m. July 20 - 24 at Oak Mountian Academy in Carrollton.

Community Care Day

There will be a Community Care Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on July 25 at Helton Howland Park. Hair cuts, dental, hearing, visual screenings and school supplies will be provided free of charge for school children of all ages. if you have any questions call 770-574-8246.

Peanut Butter & Jelly Drive

Bank of North Georgia, which has one branch in Bremen and one in Tallapoosa, will conduct its second annual Back-to-School Peanut Butter and Jelly Food Drive from July 20-31 during normal banking hours. The Bremen branch team is collecting jars for children served by Bremen Food and Clothing and the Tallapoosa team is collecting jars for children served by the Haralson County Health Department. The banking team would like to see both creamy and crunchy varieties of peanut butter and any flavor of jelly. Customers, team members and local residents are all invited to participate in this special initiative.

Friends of the Library

Friends of the Buchanan-Haralson Library will hold a meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 3, at the Historic courthouse in downtown Buchanan. Please come and support your local library! Everyone is encouraged to attend.

City-Wide Yard Sale

Buchanan will have its Second Annual City Wide Yard Sale beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1. Maps can also be picked up at Country Gardens and Gifts/Salon 27, located at 3116 Business Hwy 27 Buchanan. Everyone is invited to participate in the yard sale.

Meeting Notice

Coosa Valley RDC organizational meeting of the new Northwest Georgia Regional Commission will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 16, in the Community Room of the Depot in Clahoun, Ga. The Coosa Valley RDC area Agency Advisory Council will hold its regular business meeting Tuesday, July 28, beginning at 10 a.m. and concluding at noon, at the Coosa Valley RDC conference room, #1 Jackson Hill Drive, Rome, Ga 201611. Meeting is open to the public.
