Battling its way back from the loser’s bracket, Bill Arp scored five runs in the first inning and never let up in trouncing previously unbeaten Boundary Waters No. 1 13-2 in the championship round of Bronco play Thursday night at the Boundary Waters Complex.

The two sqauds played again late last night for the state title, Results of that game weren’t available at press time but will be in Saturday’s edition. Both teams will advance to next week’s region tournament at Winston.

Dylan Ward reached on an error to start the game, and after that it was all Bill Arp. The winners banged out five first-inning hits and breezed to victory.

Roman Boylen singled and with one out Dustin Gray singled and later scored on a successful rundown play.

Pitcher Devin Ward, who threw a complete game on the mound, doubled home the game’s second run. Jordan Paden added an RBI single and Colyan Miller walked to load the bases. David Jenkins delivered a two-RBI double to climax the inning.

That was all the offense Ward needed. He allowed just seven hits over seven inings and was in complete command.

Bill Arp added a single run in the second on a double steal to go up 6-0.

The hot-hitting club added three more runs in the top of the third, as the lead grew to 9-0. Devin Ward led off with a walk and Miller was hit with a pitch. Jenkins singled home the first run of the frame, before the next one came across on a ground out and the third run of the inning scored on an error.

Boundary Waters finally got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third when Mitch Burger tripled and scored on a wild pitch.

Boundary Waters made it 9-2 in the fourth. Ben Turner and Aeneas Williams opened the inning with base hits and Jake Atkins walked to load the bases. After a run scored on a sacrifice fly, a double play on a line drive to the shortstop ended the frame.

Just to keep its momentum going, Bill Arp added a run in the fifth as Jenkins collected his third hit and later scored.

Three more Bill Arp runs in the seventh wrapped up the scoring. A double by Dylan Ward, single from Boylen, double by Alex Smith and Gray’s third hit of the game did the damage.

The game was a lot different from the first meeting between the two clubs in the tourney which Boundary Waters won 16-6. Bill Arp then got its bats hot, eliminating Winston Red 16-5 in a run-rule victory to reach the championship round.

Jonathan Mitchell of Boundary Waters No. 2, one of the two players injured in a collision Monday during a game vs. Boundary Waters No. 1, threw out the first pitch before a cheering crowd.
