Mr. Craven was born July 25, 1929, to Waymen Potter Craven and Jimmie Lou Garrett Craven. He married his lovely bride Sara Johnson Craven on June 2, and they recently celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary. He loved his family with all of his heart and had a special love for his precious granddaughter Sara Markham.
He had been a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church longer then anyone else, joining at a very early age. He loved camp meetings and missed only one which was recently. He was an unofficial expert on Shiloh and Burwell having been interviewed by the local newspaper.
He was an Emeritus in the masonic order being a member for over 50 years and had been a member of the Burwell Lodge, Bowdon Lodge, and at his death was a member of Carroll Masonic Lodge # 69.
He worked at Kraft Foods in Decatur for 10 years and moved back to Carrollton to raise broilers and worked for Southwire Company for 19 ½ years in the supply department.
He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and loved to spend time setting around at the Corner Store at Burwell and talk to any one that would listen.
Survivors include wife, Sara Johnson Craven; son and daughter-in-law, Dan E. and Anita Craven; daughter and son-in-law, Anne and Bob Markham, all of Carrollton; sister and brother-in-law, Mara Ann and Arnold Loftin of Marietta; granddaughter, Sara Markham of Carrollton. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Ward.
Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 5, 2009, at 3 p.m. at Shiloh United Methodist Church with Rev. Martha Dye and Rev. Paul Davis officiating. Music will be furnished by Linda McCray, Saverne McCray, Carol Windom, and Carla Jackson.
His body will lie in the church 30 minutes prior to the funeral.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday, July 4, 2009, from 5 p.m to 8 p.m.
Pallbearers will be Bob Ward, Jimmy Loftin, Bob Markham, Ed Temple, Crosby Holland, Randy Garrett, Buddy Lambert and Scott Temple. Honorary pallbearers will be the Young at Hearts of Shiloh United Methodist Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Shiloh United Methodist Church, 1874 Burwell Road, Carrollton, GA 30116.
Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery.
