The Bremen High School boys basketball team graduated eight seniors, leaving it with a completely new look this summer as it begins to work toward next season.

The Blue Devils played Thursday in the Temple High School team camp, and assistant coach Shonn Weldon said it will clearly be a tall task replacing the backcourt duo of Dylan Jenkins and Clayton McIntosh, particularly their ball-handling.

“It’s going to be very difficult. Very, very difficult,” Weldon said.

Bremen coach Billy Pollard, who has not yet gotten to work with the team this summer after spending the past three weeks at Ft. Hood, Texas, is excited to see who will take over the ball-handling duties.

“It’s definitely going to be an interesting year to see who steps up and takes their place,” Pollard said.

Rising junior Josh Shackleford is one of the players who will be in the mix at the point.

Standout post player Kail Singleton also graduated, leaving the Blue Devils without three of their top scorers from a season ago.

Pollard expects big things from the rising junior trio of Matt Parker, Dylan Morgan and Seth Stogner, as all have seen solid minutes in their first two seasons.

“I expect them to play as seniors next year, not just juniors,” Pollard said.

He is also interested to see how rising seniors Jarod Atkins, Jake Rooks, Matt Patterson and Brent Hulsey contribute, as well as how incoming freshmen Josh Johnson and Gregory Garold might fit into the rotation.

Pollard knows it will be a whole new team from a season ago, but he said it is the nature of the beast in high school sports. Meanwhile, he tends to think his guys can do a little more than some people might expect right now.

“I’m just looking forward to getting started,” Pollard said. “I think this team has a lot of potential that nobody has seen.”
