A Temple man died Tuesday night after a wrecker he was working on at his business rolled on top of him.

Carroll County Coroner Sam Eady said Barry Lewis, 55, of Temple died from injuries hours after he was flown to Atlanta Medical Center.

Lewis, who is a former Temple recreation director and Carroll County school bus driver, was the owner of Temple Automotive for 31 years.

Georgia State Patrol Villa Rica Post Commander Joey Boatright said Lewis was working on an International wrecker outside of the business when the tow truck somehow managed to come out of gear, running over Lewis.

Boatright said the wrecker was in gear but was locked up when troopers arrived at the business on Sage Street. Troopers are still investigating what caused the wrecker to change gears.

Carroll County Fire and Rescue Capt. Tyler Shadix said when firefighters arrived at the business around 8:30 p.m., they found Lewis under the tow truck. He was taken to Temple High School, where a helicopter landed to move him to Atlanta.

I agree with Ms. Robertson. I hope that there is a more in depth story about a man that contributed so much of his life to the people of this town. I justed wanted to thank Gary Thomas for being underneath that wrecker truck with me and for acting as the,"CHIEF" his is! One can not put a monetary value on leadership and what a man is truly made of. I hope they reverse (THEIR STUPID DECISION)if they don't it will not be him that loses it will be the people of Carroll County. I also wanted to thank West Georgia Ambulance for acting with such care and quickness, they were great. Barry stated to me that he loved us all! I will miss him with all my heart, he was like my father always looking out for me and coaching me as he did all children that he dealt with. I love you Barry.

I sincerely hope the Times-Georgian takes the time to provide a in-depth article on Mr. Lewis and his contributions to the Temple community.

He & Ms Carol have been instrumental in the development of many positive programs & initiatives in Temple.

I believe he's coached almost every child in Temple, thru tball, softball, etc. and it would be almost impossible to find anyone that didn't know he & his family. Temple has lost a phenomenal individual. My thoughts are with Carol, Michelle, & Melissa.
