Gregory Gerard continued his strong start to the 2013 campaign, firing a four-hit shutout in the Bremen High School baseball team’s 7-0 Region 5-AA road win at Heard County on Tuesday evening.

The Blue Devil senior right-hander improved to 4-1 on the season, striking out 14 hitters and yielding no walks.

“He really pitched well. He didn’t walk anybody and his breaking ball was working really good [Tuesday]. He struck a lot out on that. He was just being real consistent,” Bremen coach Mark Clark said of Gerard’s performance.

Bremen (11-1-1, 7-0-1 Region 5-AA), which shot up to No. 4 in the most recent Class AA Prep Country.com/GACA Coaches Poll, got single runs in the second and fifth frames before busting the game open with a four-run sixth and then tacking on another run in the seventh.

Offensively, Colby Houser went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and an RBI, while Dylan Nappi (2-for-4) and Jonah Stephens (2-for-5, 2B) also had multiple-hit efforts.

Bremen returns home on Friday for a 4 p.m. region doubleheader against Kendrick, where the Blue Devils will look to remain unbeaten in 5-AA action.

“We’re just glad we’re winning. We’re excited. The guys are playing real good defense, they didn’t make any errors [Tuesday]. We’ve just got to stay consistent and keep playing well,” Clark said.
