After serving one year in the United States Navy he returned to his home of East Point, Georgia, and opened Burnett Motors on Stewart Avenue. In 1970 he moved to Carrollton, Georgia, where he was the owner and manager of Burnett VW. He worked in the automobile business until his retirement due to his illness of Alzheimer’s. All who worked with him spoke about his character and that he was always putting others’ needs before his own. He was known for his integrity and love for God and his family. He was a long time member of Tabernacle Baptist Church and later joined Midway Baptist Church after moving to his home in that community.
