Forrister leads Bremen at Invite

Led by its top singles player, the Bremen High School boys’ tennis team rebounded from an opening-match loss to finish 2-1 at the Granger Invitational this weekend in LaGrange.

In three matches between Friday and Saturday, Nick Forrister, playing at No. 1 singles for Bremen, didn’t lose a single game, sweeping Michael McCanless of Calhoun (6-0, 6-0), Evan Bafile of Lumpkin County (6-0, 6-0) and James Walker of Northside, Columbus (6-0, 6-0).

Forrister picked up the only win for Bremen in the 4-1 setback against Calhoun, but the Blue Devils bounced back with a 5-0 victory over Lumpkin County.

Along with Forrister’s win, No. 2 Cale Van Dyke (6-1, 6-0) and No. 3 Jordan Leahey (6-2, 6-1) also were victorious in singles, while the pairings of No. 1 Connor Gibbs/Andrew Tisinger (6-2, 6-0) and No. 2 Ryan Sammon/Will Sammon (6-0, 6-3) were also winners.

In the final match of the weekend against Northside, Columbus, Van Dyke (6-0, 6-1) and Leahey (6-1, 6-2) won once again, with No. 1 Gibbs/ Will Sammon (6-2, 6-2) and No. 2 Logan Hawkins/Ryan Sammon (7-5, 6-3) also picking up wins.

Bremen girls 5, Harris County 0: The Lady Blue Devils (5-1) swept their final match of the weekend in LaGrange, getting wins from No. 1 Meg Cummings (6-1, 6-2), No. 2 Charli Allen (6-0, 6-1) and No. 3 Emily Cheshier (6-2, 6-0). In doubles action, No. 1 Wrenn Parrish/Charlotte Williams (5-7, 6-3, 12-10) won a tight battle, while No. 2 Kelli Coats/Elizabeth Knott (6-0, 6-0) cruised in straight sets.

Prep Baseball

The Carrollton High School freshman baseball team swept a doubleheader with Troup on Saturday, earning 17-2 and 17-5 wins.

In the opener, Jett Driver went 3-for-4 with two RBI, while Sam Barge (2-for-2, HR, 5 RBI) and Jack Garrett (3-for-3, RBI) also had solid showings at the plate. In Game 2, Lee Kay (3-for-4, 2 RBI), Austin Todd (2-for-3, 2 RBI) and Will Curvino (2-for-3, 2 RBI) led the way.
